Do you enjoy movies that have a good premise—but then devolve into a shockingly insane level of extraordinary nonsense? Then may I recommend Blind Waters, which defies language for how awful it is and, if nothing else, makes shriekingly obvious why script and location need to match.

Do you enjoy made-for-TV movies about a 30-year-old crime cases that are uninteresting even though you’re a true crime fan? Then may I recommend Whitey: The United States of America vs James Bulger, my random movie #10, which was about someone I never heard or, even now, care about.

Do you enjoy horror movies that have no sense of what it’s own monster is? Then may I recommend No_Filter, which suggests something interesting but then veers off until it’s clear the film does not know what it’s trying to do. Dollars to donuts, this movie was made my committee.

Do you enjoy mediocre films? Then may I recommend Gun, a movie that doesn’t do anything ridiculously wrong, it’s just…not new or exciting or anything beyond cliches and stereotypes. Interesting muted color choice in the cinematography though.

Do you enjoy exceptionally well made documentaries? Then may I recommend The Volcano Rescue from Whakaari, about the NZ eruption. It was a random movie 8 and held me completely riveted from the first moment. Plus amazing—and chilling—visual and audio recordings from survivors.

wow I'll watch it

Do you enjoy thrillers with a touch of fantasy that are sometimes a touch too much but get better as they go? Then may I recommend Last Night in Soho (random movie #9) that was more compelling than I thought it would be. Great art direction, costuming, and production design too.

another one to add to my list! 🫶🏻

Do you enjoy derivative British zombie comedies? Then may I recommend Cockneys vs Zombies which had a great premise but didn’t click because the gags weren’t smart. Also, the actors didn’t seem to have much fun with it, which made it more depressing than fun. 😕
