yesterday i was in trapani to see the "misteri pasquali" [mysteries] and you can see by yourself what happens there from 12am of friday to 12am of saturday:
this ancient statues are rapresentative of the via crucis stops... they are richly decorated with silver and other precious materials... and people [only men!] bring them thru the streets for 24 hs and believe me these statue are heavy... HEAVY!!!! there are also bands that play sad songs and children bringin' black or purple flag [colours of death!]
to explain a bit of this crazy things, you should know how important is easter in sicily... we are really obsessed from death and religion... skull, bones and other "heavy metal" stuff are from centuries in the DNA of the sicilian religiosity... so easter is the perfect combination of death [the death of god] and religion [god himself]...
