in 1978, a voice emerged, from Southern California favorites, "the doobie brothers", and would soon set off the carry their most succesful record, "minute by minute". Michael Mcdonald, breaking the mold of what was a primarly blues based/country sound, came out swinging with"what a fool believes" a wonderful pop gem. the album would soon win four grammy's establishing the band and mcdonald as superstars, and mcdonald as a true talent. Written with Kenny Loggins, What a fool believes would take song of the year in 1979. Appearing on ABC'S "whats happening" in 1979, the doobies had become more than just another so cal rock band, but a pop phenomenom, thanks to the hit making machine, that was michael mcdonald.
Showing up in with Kenny loggins, and sharing vocal credit on "this is it" mcdonald one again showed his individual vocal prowess, side by side with a talent like Kenny Loggins.
The following few years were spent working with such artists and Bonnie rate, Mcdonald was a major force the "NO NUKES" concert.
with more grammy nominations to follow throughout the eightes, it was his duet with patty labelle "On my own" from the soundtrack to the hillarious, buddy picture "running scared" that stayed number 1 for 6 weeks.
Still touring, you can look forward to a collaboration with Loggins in Loggins up coming album out this year.

edit: My mistake for assuming the doobies hailed from so cal, as punt pointed out.
im guessing it was in central CA, where the band established their strong fan base with the hells angels.
