So tonight, I guess I'm going to have to give the smoking and drinking a break, simply because I haven't got any. I was feeling bored, so I plugged my mp3 player into this computer and I'm listening to the greatest fucking mix of music ever... Not really, but I'm grooving to more than 10 gigs of borrowed CDs, my own collection, random downloads, and everything inbetween. It's nice. I should mention it's awfully convenient as well.

I had stopped typing this for a bit, and I've been standing outside for the better part of an hour, smoking cigarettes and walking around the neighborhood for no reason, other than boredom. I live in this old neighborhood in Fayetteville, NC, and I think all these houses were built in the late 60s or early 70s because they're a bit...impractical in some ways, and fucking outstanding in others. Then again, what do I know. They could have been built in the 80s and I would never know. It's not as if my name is on the official-house-papers, deeds, leases, or whatever. I just like it here. I used to crash here all the time, until they gave me a key so I could keep an eye on the cats when everyone went out of town. Now I live here, pay really cheap rent, and I sit outside smoking cigarettes on the front steps until the sun comes up, most evenings/mornings, not bothering to go to sleep until I see hummingbirds or power-walking elderly people.

I'm a bit obsessed with hummingbirds right now, and I'm not sure why really. There's this one little green one who comes in the morning, most mornings, and... Actually, now that I think about it, ALL the hummingbirds around here could be green, which would seem more realistic, rather than assuming some sort of familiarity with one animal, in particular. Anyway, when he/she/it pays me a visit, it usually means things are going to be pretty good for a whiile. "A while" could be a few hours or it could be a few months. My personal good omens tend to be really vague like that. They also don't like the smell of spray paint much either. Not that I spray hummingbirds with spray paint, but I had a few canvases that I sprayed and left them outside, exposed to the elements, because I was trying to get that aged, fucked-up, weathered look naturally, without messing about on the computer in Photoshop... Anyway, they were all sitting on a metal folding chair by the flowers on the patio-type thing we have here at this house, and I guess the paint smell was a bit strong, so I didn't get to see the little hummingbird for a few days or so.

I would never spray extremely flammable, non-water soluble paint at a defenseless animal. I reserve the right to do that to people only. People and cars. Walls. Blue metal mailboxes.

Wouldn't it be outstanding if mailboxes actually had people inside them, and they would dance around when you approached and put mail in them? If you've seen the old video for Bjork's "It's So Quiet" (by the ever-amazing Spike Jonze), then you might know what it is that I'm talking about, because right now, I'm not even sure where this is going.

I'm going to drive up to the gas station to get something to drink. I'm tired of tap water. The irony is that I've had so much tap water these past few hours, that I don't think I'm really that thirsty anymore, but fuck it. I'll have some for later. Being prepared is always a good thing.

Later.
