I had dinner and drinks with a good girlfriend of mine last night and now I'm feeling the effects...champagne was fine but Nicaraguan rum was not a good idea.blackeyed At least it was yummy.

I'm really trying hard to stay productive and not freak out about my move. I went to my condo yesterday to get some stuff I'd left there. I was shocked when...

Bad news: no Chicago trip (meaning no chance to re-create the magic of Ferris Bueller's day off or eat famous Chicago street food or go to my best friend's favorite goth club to laugh at goth kids dancing).frown

Good news: looks like the move is happening way sooner than I'd originally planned. The car has been rented and my brother's return ticket bought. He's helping...

Very cool about this move, though I hate you'll be skipping town just as I'm starting to get to know you smile. Good luck, and holler at me when you have your going away drinkies, should such a thing occur.

Re: Ms. Hendricks, here here!

Regarding the chasm. . . both of us I suppose, but mostly me. I'd like to have most or all of my debt killed before buying this ring. It's reasonably priced and well managed, but I have a lot of it. I also would like to not be constrained on how much I can spend on the wedding and honeymoon because I expect to be kicking in on it at least some, and we also want to do receptions in London and Portland. Mind you, I don't want to be ostentatious (even though I joke about having the "ballingest wedding ever!"), but throwing that party gets costly regardless of how sensible you are. I'm hoping to earn my way out mostly though, we've got some big deals in the pipeline very soon and if we can succeed at those, we'll be all set.

Thanks for your comment on my new set

Just got back from a long weekend in Texas. I spent two nights in Houston at my dad's, where he treated me to fantastic seafood one night and sushi the next (Houston's the fattest city in America for a reason...there're way too many restaurants). My stepmother loaded me down for my return trip with stuff from her travels-I picked up pearl earrings from China, a...

Swallow at the Hollow in Roswell is really good but a little tricky to find. They sell 40s instead of pitchers.

Tomorrow I'm headed out to Houston to visit my dad and his wife, and hopefully this weekend I'll be in Austin with my aunt and her family (and maybe a couple of my Austin friends I haven't seen in a few years-I'm keeping my fingers crossed). From what my dad tells me everything's settling down out there, though there are still lots of folks that...

Hope everyone dries out okay.

And give Austin a deep kiss for me! It's been a few years since I moved, and it's still one of my favorite places. Barton Springs should feel just right this time of year....

My weekend:

-celebrated my mama's birthday Friday night with dinner at home (cooked by my brother-surprise!)
-dressed up for a fancy dinner party at a friend's, was amazed at how insular college girls can be
-had to change plans due to minor gas crisis (which wouldn't have been a crisis if people didn't freak out)
-heard from my dad on Saturday-everyone's ok in Houston but...

Funny, I periodically lust after Christina Hendricks from Mad Men smile

Glad to hear your family is well, Houston is a mess but I'm sure it will recover reasonably soon.

I have not read Native Son in a long time. I should. Same with Invisible Man for that matter.

Yep, everyone and their mother has done TFA. It's pretty wonderful though, as much as it is horrible too. I'm trying my best for these kids, I just hope they learn!!!

Overall I had a really nice trip to New York. I got to see my godparents, my ex roomie (who's really like my brother we're so close), a good old friend from Atlanta, and some very lovely New York people. I accomplished my goal for the trip: I got a job at a specialty/emergency veterinary practice. They're opening a satellite office in Queens in late...

Today I worked early and took my dogs to the park to run around when I got home. It was fun cramming all three of my big guys into the back of my car-they were awful about being loaded up and misbehaved on the way, but after running around to their hearts' content they settled down nicely. It's a great feeling when all three of...

Friday night after work I had some delicious sushi and got drunk on pear cider (I know, so girly) and sparkling sake, tried to go to a fetish club that turned out to be boys only, went to the sex shop instead and was surprised at the cross-cultural exchange the war in Iraq has brought about: Arab and East Indian porn was huge! I marveled...

I wonder if female dental students have to say they're studying to be hygienists to get laid. Or if that just leads to a lot of unwelcome flossing jokes.

No pics of my newly shorn head yet, but I love it! I had it bobbed, and the back tickles the nape of my neck.love

Dinner at Rathbun's was amazing. I had sweet corn chowder with a hint of chile, with the tiniest grilled gruyere sandwich on top (it was seriously bite-sized, so cute!) to start. Then we shared four small plates: smoked salmon tostadas...

the idea of hipster porn stars is scary...can you imagine the music in those movies!?!?! smile

I'm sure her boyfirend will survive your tackyness. small price to pay. and excellent company is worth and maybe made better by the silliness. It took me three minutes to type that. ugh. I'm not drunk, just jolted from a dead sleep and can't quite get my brain/typing fingers to agree on anything. ok. I hope you've had a lovely weekend...and no worries. not heading out anywhere. just going back to drilling status. I had dropped off going to drill since the Spring and I'm going back to my one weekend a month thing.

oooh! fun in NYC! I miss that town. great eats up there.
goodmorning/night.

endlessly:
You're like 90% right. Yes, the Army will pay for you to become a doctor for them. And yes, they are going to spend a lot of money on making you one so they want to protect their investment (so to speak). And yes, you are a valuable asset as a doctor or PA to them so you are generally placed in areas where you will be less 'in harm's way.' However, that being said, there is still no way to prevent you're helicopter from coming under fire or if some FOB needs a doctor and you volunteer to go and you're convoy hits an IED or gets ambushed. I'm just saying. You're almost entirely correct and I'd wager to say that you would live a long healthy, well-educated life that the Army paid for, but then you could get hit by a car while going out for milk tomorrow, or your helicopter could get shot down. Tell your mom to worry less. You'll be fine.

Today I get to:
-get my hair chopped off at my favorite salon
-eat at my favorite restaurant
-spend some quality time with someone I'm incredibly attracted to that I haven't seen all year.love
