"She introduced me to so many things: pasteurized milk, sheets, monotheism, presents on your birthday, preventative medicine." I love The Office.
Tonight the girls at work and I decided that heterosexuals need a bandanna system for indicating our preferences, too. Something like what gay men use, you know, a pink bandanna in my pocket means I like a bear on bottom who'll dominate me outside... Read More
Tonight at work one of the vets high-fived me because I convinced a client whose pet is hospitalized with us to let us charge $4,000 to her credit card (her current invoice is almost $5,000). I didn't have to do any convincing, I just charged what the client asked me to (she's a very sweet humanities prof at NYU), but the vet thought I convinced... Read More
Sometimes I get into a little funk. Fortunately for me since I moved up here these are fewer and further between than before. This weekend, in spite of lots of the usual and not so usual good things happening, I fell into one. It's a minor one, so I'm going to blame it on the sad fact that David Cross is dating Amber Tamblyn. Anyway,... Read More
Wow. Y'all lucked out. I had this really emo rant about the economy and my mom possibly losing our house back home all ready and poof! my connection failed and it wasn't saved. Oh well...another time when I'm really emo and the Oscars aren't on. Yes, I'm watching them!
Last night I got some tough love in the form of a stern talking-to from a... Read More
Howdy.
I'm glad that your stern talking to worked, although I'm not sure what was going on. I watched the Oscars too. I'm glad Slumdog cleaned up. While I don't really like Sean Penn, I'm glad he won and I thought his speech was great.
As far as SXSW goes, I won't really be participating. One of the artists from my old job asked if I would sell his prints at the rodeo. Might do it for some cash and a chance to get out of the house. I had a job interview on Friday. While I think the job would be perfect for me, the office is almost in Round Rock. I really don't want to make that commute every day. Something tells me that I'm not getting the job. They seemed to feel that my Excel skills were not up to snuff. It sucks that they would base my qualifications on that because I have done the very thing that the job entails every day for over 3 years! Oh well.
Hope all is well. Talk to you soon.
Back to the drawing board...Valentine's Day was a disaster. It's alright, though, because I did manage to have a great night Sunday. I saw Coraline in 3D with the ever-lovely Alzy, had some yummy sushi and sake, hung out at one of my favorite bars, and had hot hotel sex with a stranger. I have several huge bruises on my chest, my nipples are... Read More
My 3 month review last Thursday went very well...I got a tiny raise! It's not going to help me get a new place or anything, but it's a nice gesture considering the state of the economy (and our practice). My boss is also going to use me for writing and editing projects, so that's good, too.
Life is good. I have lovely friends here. My love life is entertaining, fulfilling, and still surprises me. I have time to write, even if I use it to goof around online instead or to watch Viggo Mortensen's nude fight scene in Eastern Promises over and over again. I'm reading a delicious, quasi-historical novel about Gaugin and his grandmother (respectively). I get to play in... Read More
Monday night, dinner w/a friend at my favorite Indian/Chinese place in Jackson Heights. Fresh hot naan and basmati rice with cilantro and spicy chicken tikka masala is great when it's snowing outside.
Tuesday/Wednesday worked hard and stayed home like a good girl.
Thursday saw Milk with a good friend and had drinks at a couple of bars. Didn't get any... Read More
It was great hanging out with my old roomie again. I missed him a lot. We both were pretty busy when I moved up here and then he traveled a lot over the holidays so we hadn't hung out in a while. He's like family to me. We watched cheesy action flicks Friday night and had a few beers, and then he came out Saturday... Read More
Just got home from seeing my first play in New York, Equus. I was impressed. There were a few moments of performance-art silliness with the horse-heads and dancers but it was a beautifully written play and I though the cast did a great job, too. I'm a total Law & Order nerd and recognized the woman playing the main character's mom as Dr. Olivet from... Read More
That big scene with the horses is tough to stage! Unless you've got actual horses up there, it's bound to look like the world's worst Lion King outtakes.
I first saw it back when I was in college, but couldn't get past my preexisting crush on the actress from the stable-sex scene. She never did invite me to those stables....
I met a very tall, very well-spoken, very lovely man tonight and had just one glass of prosecco. I'm still buzzing.
Forget The Wrestler, Revolution Road, Milk, Let the Right One In, and all the other movies I want to see that are out right now. I will see this first if it kills me:
Man-I have the worst NyQuil hangover. I went to bed embarrassingly early and that's what I get. Woot. At least this time around I've got new books to read. I went to The Strand over the holidays and got myself some birthday presents: Confessions of a Sinner by St. Augustine, The Razor's Edge by Somerset Maugham, The Complete Poems of Catallus, and The Way to...
