i've been trying to think of a new screen name for this site. so far nothing has come to mind, so........

i'm holding a naming contest.

the rules are simple.

create a name you think i might like, send it to me via the site message system ( no blog posts please )

i'll choose the one that will become my new name.

and what...

well, being the ever play-it-safe type i asked the dancer if going out sometime was part of giving me her number. she said yes.

i feel like the dog who finally caught the car. now what?

in other news, i have started a new strength training program which is based on low reps and not working to failure. good lord, does it work. within one...

If they don't, they probably still have some of the Nabokov's I got rid of when I cut back my library.

well, sunday was an interesting day. Operation Bush Stimulus was put into action.
while spending my well earned free government handout at the strip club the following things happened:

a supervisor from work was there visiting with the dancer i go to see. he and i talked for a few minutes before he had to leave.

found a $20 bill under my seat at the...

I don't think that is quite the "stimulus" that the givernment had in mind.

And Evan so means for you to kidnap her.

Strippers make good friends. Seriously, two of the best friends I ever had were strippers.

I liked the limerick. tongue

You need to see Dersu Uzala. I believe you will love it.
nopantsdave:
It's in Russian, oddly. The title character is a hunter that a group of Russian soldiers come across in the forest. They're out surveying and he meets up with them. He then becomes their guide. The story is about the friendship that happens between Dersu and the Captain. I'll be shocked if you don't love it.

ok, this is too weird not to post.....

yesterday, a woman at the coffe shop said i reminded her of Dr. Andrew Weil, natural medicine doctor, because she sees me reading "spiritual' books all the time and i looked similar to him.

today, while a resturant i have never eaten at before ( schnauzers is schoolcraft ) a waitress approached me as i was leaving...

Lars is up near the top of my list right now. I should be seeing it soon. The two that I have coming next are the next disc of Twin Peaks and a Fellini film called Juliet of the Spirits.
nopantsdave:
Glad you like Before the Devil. I figured you would. And I warned you about Southland Tales, I'm not taking the blame for it, I told you it would either be one of your all time favorites or you would hate it.

I've given up on Twin Peaks. I just couldn't get into it. I got Juliet of the Spirits yesterday and Lars today....not sure when I will be able to watch them. I have a terribly busy next 8 days with 4 baseball games, 2 plays, 2 concerts and 40 hours of work that I intend to cram in between now and next Sunday.

during some downtime at work a few of us were standing in a control room passing the time when a female coworker started waving her arm around saying " can you smell romance? can you smell me?" among the others giving each other "this is too easy" glances and saying no, because they knew her husband on another shift we didn't say much. so, she...

I watched Into the Wild without knowing anything about it. I didn't know he died. I was shocked. I really like Emile Hirsch. He was one of the leads in Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys too.

I watched Hot Fuzz a second time before sending it back.

I hated the ending of Eastern Promises. It seemed abrupt and didn't seem to really "end" things. You know what I mean? Maybe I expected more closure.

I haven't seen Atonement yet. I missed it in the theater. It's pretty high on my NetFlix list. so I should be getting it soon. I have Once on my list too.....have you seen that? I hear the music is outstanding.

Quarterly Update:

i've been taking a martial arts class taught by one of my co-workers. it's a no non-sense mix of korean and filipino fighting systems. weapon training, grappling, joint locks, striking, kicking. ok, kicking is hard due to breaking my hip when i was 14 but the rest is going well. i figure that since i turn 40 this year i may as well...

I have been pondering that myself this weekend. I haven't come up with anyone concrete yet, but I do know we need to get NPD in this flick too.
syh:
Ooo, good one.

I haven't seen many newer movies lately, so I'm well out of the loop when it comes to the current crop of actors. That said, how about Sam the Eagle for me? biggrin He's a curmudgeon with a penchant for eloquent erudition; I'm a curmudgeon who likes to think I have eloquent erudition.

Ok, I saw No Country. I didn't leave with the same "Damn was that a fucking great movie" feel that I left Juno with. Instead I was thinking more...."What the fuck was the point of that?" Not that the movie itself confused me, more just why did they bother making it. The story didn't seem worth telling. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Atonement and There Will be Blood are both playing.....next week or the week after I'll squeeze those two in. Any word on Atonement or have you not seen it?
nopantsdave:
I think it's lengthy and will be sitting on my shelf for awhile before I get around to reading it.

I got a bunch of sci-fi....Asimov and Heinlein mostly. I also picked up the other three books in the 2001 series. And I got the book for Solaris which I know and love as a Tarkovsky movie and refuse to acknowlegde the existence of as a George Clooney movie. I picked up a bunch of Mark Twain's stuff too, for as well read as I am, I have neglected Twain. I've never read Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. The best score was Sir Gwain and the Green Knight translated by none other than JRR Tolkein....I didn't know he had done anything like that, I thought he only did original fiction. It will be interesting to see how he handles it.

Sorry you couldn't make it out, it would have been good to hang out. I will probably not be up again until Easter and that's assuming it is at my brother's rather than my parents' house. Once I get my car up and running in the spring I may come up just for a couple days when most of the people I want to see are not out of town. Most everyone I was looking forward to seeing had left to go home fro Chistmas.
