Thanks! I love Gibson too. But, also, Philip K. Dick, Effinger, Arthur C. Clarke, Michael Marshall Smith, Alfred Bester etc. etc. I could go on forever!
Most Science Fiction authors that I love though I really only love ONE of their books. Sometimes they just can't produce more than one astounding story. xx.
really should be sleeping. instead watching election coverage, holding my eyes open. it's times like this when I support one single Universal Time Zone. besides it'd be just funny as hell.
election coverage is kind of fascinating this year. finally, it's the sexy race to see if middle america is more sexist or racist that we've all been waiting for!
bear with my page folks. not that anyone else is likely impatient....anyway...my OOOOOOOOOOLD account that I got locked out of back in 2002 was merged with my curent one...so things are a little wonky. that's right I'm so old skool, I've got an old account that's even more old skool...or whatever.
anyhow. busy busy. when I get back I'll try to fix it all up... Read More
Home from work today. being lazy. added some photos in my places folder from my New York and Europe travels last year. maybe add a few from Puerto Rico as well. I haven't added photos in quite a while. guess i just tend to put them on flickr instead.
opening a fresh can of Cafe Du Monde coffee with chicory this morning. I miss New... Read More
Definitely wasn't talking about "work." It was pure vacation. Most of my friends from work can never take vacation the same time I do, for obvious reasons, and my civilian friends are scared shitless to leave the country, for whatever reason. Sad, I know... I know...
Although, my brother-in-law is Czech and we are planning a trip over there this summer. Should be total madness; he's a nutcase.
another day in the life...another potential mutiliation.
so anyway... I was actually at work today. I was cutting some very old ductwork loose in an attic (it's basically the tubing that carries the air from your furnace or a/c to the vents...anyway the stuff holds its shape by a spiral of steel wire, about 14g that is the wall of the duct.
Mmm, jerky. I've yet to make my own. I think I will have to try. Tomorrow.
Trying to keep warm, it's currently doing this great thing called pissing rain and then flash freezing. The roads are skating rinks, I think one would be 100% safer driving over lawns and feilds.
I very much dislike being awake at 6am on a day when it is 34 degrees and drizzling. I believe there is a law that makes this "stay the fuck in bed" weather.
edit: day made better. don't have to work today. could use the money, but this weather is such crap. I don't mind coming home, changing back into sweats and just having some... Read More
Long weekend. Another short week because of NO WORK. It's getting ridiculous. No work again today. I only worked one day last week. how do they expect me to make even a meager living this way?
Had drill over the weekend. Was mostly an administrative thing. Not much of it pertained to me. The unit I'm with is preparing for thier three weeks of Annual... Read More
I was raised to hate the Cowboys.
Oh, and Jerry Jones is the devil.
Anyhoo ... mine's still the same account, it's just that my account lapsing (even though it was just an hour or something when they went to charge an expired credit card) caused my 'member since' to go from 10/01 to 10/02. No big.
You should ask bean if they can merge yours. I think that if you know your original member name (which, obviously, you do) they can do it.
and so it's a new year. I've never been a huge fan of New Year's. It just seemed like such an arbitrary date to mark the beginning of a new solar year. It doesn't coincide with the beginning of a season or anything like that. And I don't understand the particular significance of a year gone by. time just keeps moving...it's all one piece...not a... Back in Austin. Puerto Rico was great. It was just really really good to escape the wintery weather (even what passes for it here in Central Texas) for a week of sun and humidity ala the tropics.
I missed my morning flight from Austin to Houston by about five minutes, but I was put on the very next flight with no extra charge and made... Read More
I worked 16 hours yesterday, from 7am until 11pm. I am back up at 530 to be back at work by 7 for another day of the same.
And my bosses wonder why I am taking another vacation so soon after my Romania trip (after no time taken off in two years). ugh.
I am very much looking to warm sandy puerto rican beaches.
