Gone for the rest of the weekend. Going to be up at Ft. Hood running around and playing withexplosives . It's drill weekend again! Going to be a long weekend with lots to do. Had to go and get passport photos made for going toMorocco
had I known they were just going to use a 2.1megapixel camera and then print them using the... Read More
haha. i can't sleep past eight anymore. ever. this was abetted by the most chock-full anxiety dream ever, which included: my hair getting dyed the wrong color, a childhood friend telling me i was awful, losing my job because i slept with a student (i'm a teacher?), a spider the size of a basketball, moving back in with my parents, and getting dumped at a holiday inn.
Thanks so much for checking out my set in hopefuls (Dim the Lights). I know it's not perfect, but it's my first self-shot, and I've only had a camera for a year, so... I'll take all the constructive criticism (and frivolous compliments) I can get! Thanks again!
it's pouring rain today. lightning, thunder, the whole bit.
I'm staying home.
I don't really like my job, but at least I've reached the seniority point where, if it's a slow enough day, I can just say "I'll be at home. call if something comes up."
Now that I have to to, I am actually looking forward to Morroco a bit. I just can't help... Read More
job rescheduled for today, so I get to sit around the apartment and be lazy.
I was given a gift card for Christmas and it sat on my bookshelf until last week. I was actually holding on to it in case I needed it to get through the slow work season...paying bills and such. Well I made it through the slowest months, so I finally... Read More
What I know is that Iraq is mostly safe for most people now. I lived with grunts for a total of about a month, in one-week increments and got to go on some patrols. Also obviously I had access to intel stuff. The place is still a mess and there's all kinds of bad things, but there is a sense of normalcy and stability and progress now. This is in Ramadi, which a year ago was still one of the deadliest places.
I just get a little irriated that its still called a war. The war ended a long time ago. maybe this is just semantics, but I think its actually relavent. Americans don't understand that this is more of a peace-keeping operation than anything. When protestors are out there protesting the "war" they're talking nonsense. What they're protesting is peace-keeping. they're protesting the rebuilding of an impoverished nation.
I was opposed to the war, but I support the peace-keeping.
Yeah, the first bit's kind of a general "overview" of my mad tech skills. I'll probably dink around with it tonight. And most HR departments just pass those things along to the IT department, because they usually don't have a fucking clue what all our arcane acronyms mean.
lazy Sunday. doing a lot of nothing in particular. went a little stir crazy this morning and got out of the apartment for a while. One of the things I love best about Austin, is the green spaces scattered throughout town. I live right on the edge of a huge undeveloped park and nature preserve, so I went for a little hike.
I the goblin condominium! Your cat's adorable, too. What happened to Noche?
What's this about Morocco? Yet another trip for me to be jealous of?! I dated a great guy from Morocco until recently...it sounds like such a fascinating place. I've always wanted to see it when I see Portugal and Spain, so I can do the whole influence-of-the-Moors tour. What's your itinerary?
The weather here is unbelievably gorgeous. I'm thinking it's too early for this so we must have another cold snap left before it's really spring. Oh well.
no work today. so I completely wasted my day. that's right. I made a good total waste of it. Watched the Transformers movie (I liked the animated one better) and beat a rather mediocre video game (Project Snowblind). now for an evening of coffee drinking and studying Arabic.
and I just realised that March drill falls right through SXSW week and weekend. can't they just... Read More
ok...so on the down side, I am going to have to keep going to drill and all that.
on the plus side...well...fact is, I really like being a Marine and I am good at it. So, I 'll just keep at it for another six months. But now I have to get a shit ton of paperwork together to go to Annual Training for three... Read More
I was pretty close to staying in myself, but they couldn't give me what I wanted. Which is weird because the Career Rentention Guys will do just about anything to get you to stay in..
But now I get to go home and become an Adventurer of Life in about 80 days so it's all good.
for the fourth time, I've gotten conflicting information about my GI Bill money.
and finally it turns out I was right to be upset the first time. If I stop actively going to drill every month (even though that portion of my contract ended last year) I will be denied the education benefit I earned for being activated twice after September 11th, 2001.
I was wondering if you've had a chance to put your Arabic training to good use since you've been back. Also, looks like I'll be visiting Austin the first week of March, so wanted to see if you'd be around. I was hoping to meet up with some people while I'm out there and maybe do something fun, like a night at the Alamo Drafthouse or have some drinks or something. Let me know!
here's the deal. I am a Reserve Marine. I've been in the Reserves since 2001 (actually contracted in 2000). I was called up twice, once for Operation... Read More
