Ok. Through talking about "Ike" now. Got it all out of my system. Still lots to do. Have some friends moving in with me for the next 3-5 weeks, but life moves forward. Sometimes in mysterious ways.

Hello World!

Online very briefly so not able to read/respond to all your sweet messages. Still without power. Just starting to get water back, but doing fine. Thanks for the well wishes and concern. Not to worry. Beneath this laid back exterior beats the heart of an anal retentive beast. I am ALWAYS prepared.that's something you should know...

I haven't been over on the Silliness board for a while, so I don't know nothing about none of the latest funny ha-ha around these here parts.

Random: do you like Big Band music? I bought a Glenn Miller CD yesterday, and it's pretty badass (remind me to stop using the word "badass). I guess I'm officially turning into an old man before my time. Or maybe I just have good taste. Hmm???
ckdexterhaven:
I've heard lots of stuff over the years, and I guess my favorites are Pennsylvania 6-5000, Tuxedo Junction, and A String of Pearls. I played a few of his songs in band class way back when.

Wow...not looking good for us here. Predicting 100-120 mile per hr winds in my area followed by heavy storm surge, worse in other areas. Lots of new construction going on in my hood so flying debris is a concern, but it looks like I'll be sticking it out here. Roads need to be dedicated to those who live in mandatory evacuation sites. They don't need...

Not bald. Embaldening! And thanks! You aint so bad yourself. blush

But there are so many orders for new muklukks! And I was just trying to help the ladies out. Plus I'm still trying to win my $50 back from Estelle playing mahjong.

Speaking of muklukks, how did the feet fair in the "comfortable" shoes?

And you never did answer my last email *shakes fist* ooo aaa

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It means a lot to me. I sure can use a mostly drama-free year. Besides the stuff I've mentioned on SG, there were other draining issues I had to deal with during the past year.

I know I've got a lot of good things going for me in my life. My family, my lady, my health, all wonderful things. I just get tired of the crap sometimes and have to force myself to count my blessings. One new and very positive thing that did happen was my discovering SG. Otherwise, I wouldn't have met wonderful people like yourself.

I managed to post at least a handful of pics of myself and my family from last week. I hope you get a chance to see them. I'll try to post more next week.

Thank you so much for what you said. It made me feel very good. blush kiss

I'm glad you were able to shake off the melancholy so quickly. I will say this, that when a person with the poise, competence and intelligence that you have is willing to occasionally show vulnerability - especially with friends - it makes you that much more awesome in my eyes! kiss

A bullet just blasted a hole through my window. I'm not quite sure how to feel about that.
It's so random. Life is so random.

EDIT- I'm alright. For a few moments I felt kind of strangely lonely. You know, 5 days later the cops find my body after neighbors report a smell and wonder why anyone would want to shoot the nice lady who...

I'm glad you understand; I expected most everyone would, to be honest. That's why I've always enjoyed this site: everyone that I've had the privilage to cultivate a rapport with, no matter how small, has been a really awesome.

In time, I hope to continue to do it, but perhaps in a more diciplined capacity. Fact is, I spend too much time on here, and we all need to disconnect sometimes. This is my time. It'll all work out though, and in the meantime, you are more than welcome to keep in touch with me. My AIM username is in my profile, or you can PM me and we can exchange e-mail addresses.

I'm ok with the remake, but it's not in the same league as the original. I agree, DeNiro is a bit over the top, and Scorsese also goes a little overboard. The film is a little too in-your-face and loud, which I suppose was Scorsese's attempt at making the audience feel as uncomfortable as Nolte's character.

I think where a lot of modern thrillers fail is by showing the audience too much, or being too graphic with the violence. There's nothing as scary as the unknown; the unsettling silence. The scariest monster in the one you never actually see. I think one of the more enjoyable modern thrillers was/is Breakdown with Kurt Russell. It's very Hitchcockian in that most of the suspense comes from the unknown, the setting (in this case, extremely isolated), and the plight of the lead character. Nothing jumps out from behind a corner and lops of anyone's head. Not sure if you've seen it, so I won't go into anymore details of the plot. It's a good one, though.

Haha, you definitely have me figured out. I do tend to have dark tastes, but, like you said, there has to be a counterbalance to that. I think that's very important in life. Too much of one or the other isn't healthy.
odin__odin:
I love this movie and the remake as well.

One of my favorite thing is rain, listening to it, walking in it - ok I do have all the outdoor gear.

I've kissed a girl after midnight on a hot september night in old San Antone, in the rain.

All the best things and strongest memories I have are in the rain, or in the water.

Thinking of you V P
