It's a-snowin' & it's a-blowin'. biggrin

I'm going to go put my chains on & go play in the snow. biggrin

{update}

There are four mourning doves on my railing. Heads sunk to breast, beady black eyes casing the joint...shady feathered characters I tell ya.

I think they want in. Oh no, not gonna happen. I saw The Birds so I'm wise to their avian wiles. *holds...

Poor birdies. I put some extra food out today since most of the feeders and such are covered in snow.

SYH's Not-So-Patented Five Step Virus Removal Program

1. Go to fridge.

2. Grab Beer.

3. Open Beer.

4. Drink Beer.

5. Repeat.

That said, I'm almost to Step 5 again. biggrin

{update}

For those of you not-in-the-know, Vitamin R (beer) is for colds, Vitamin L (hard liquor) is for the flu, and Vitamin Q (NyQuil) for both because it comes in Green Death Flavor. love

Then the orange juice has a placebo effect. wink It makes me feel better because I love it. Mmm... orange juice.

It's impossible for me to OD on it. I have a slight allergy to citrus, so I get itchy long before I get to the Vitamin C danger point. Um, yay?

They were debating chicken noodle soup for a while too, and I believe the consensus was, "Well, it has a lot of nutrients, so it's not like it's really BAD for them... let them eat it. If anything, they'll psych themselves into thinking they're feeling better."

I am aware of the history of the rail system. The problem is that the system is not user friendly which would be one way to fix it and yes it would cost time and money ( which the city has if they could handle it correctly). If they cleaned up the system and marketed its use then they would help build their reputation. My point was not that we should drop everything an pursue this, I was simply making the point at how little we value certain amenities. wink

Thanks for the birthday wishes. smile

Yesterday I received a lovely present from one of Mister Rhinovirus's many cousins. Since this particular cousin is a dirt-poor virus, he decided the best gift was himself, thus I start my 26th year with a head cold. surreal

If you'll excuse me, I have to feed this unwanted guest. After all, Feed a cold, starve a fever. Or is...

Oh, I'm not saying it's a lot. Hell, I remember 8-10 being the daily forecast. THAT'S why I'm happy. wink biggrin *bounce* I'm sick of this piddly 2-4 inches nonsense. I want to be blanketed.

30 inches would be awesome.
_sarah_:
I didn't say it would be a good thing for the state. I simply said it would be awesome. wink

Marquette used to get 18-20 inches sometimes, but we were prepared for it. I still buy way too many groceries. Anyway, you're right. It would shut down the lower peninsula.

I used to love visiting Houghton. They had these metal structures over main streets, meant to be a "roof" of sorts so that the main roads along the hillsides stayed reasonably clear. For everyone in neighborhoods on the high hills, they had parking lots at the bottom of the hills and then ropes tied to utility poles so you could pull yourself up as you walked. I wasn't a fan (pain in the ass), but it was a great idea. Most cars couldn't get up the incline when it was snowy/icy.

It amazes me that humans have learned to adapt to cold climates instead of simply moving south. I often wonder what made people stay, even going back to the natives. Instead of getting the hell out when the snow started flying, they learned to build better shelters and store food. Even now, we have doors on the second or third floor of a house, extra insulation, salt/plow trucks, furnaces, etc. It's interesting to me.

It's rather chilly tonight.

Therefore, I have declared tonight SYH Watches & Listens to His New Foamy DVD & CD Entertainment Extravaganza. biggrin

Much fun will be had.

Oh, and I'll be dining on nuked BBQ ham sammiches. Mmm...BBQ ham sammiches... love

{update}

In the spirit of ham sammiches & beer, tonight I discovered a cache of Annette Hanshaw MP3s. Ahh...sweet '20s jazz singers... biggrin

First it rained all the snow away, now it's snowing the rain away.

This is one screwy January. surreal

In other news, tonight I'm making lentil soup. Since this is the first time I've made it, I've called in a special guinea pig to "test the waters", so to speak.

I must say, it smells delicious. biggrin

{update @ 9:30pm}

The guinea pig has declared the soup...

"Hello, is the lady of the house there?"

There is no lady of the house.

Well, in the preceding thirty seconds, she still hasn't walked through the door. Perhaps you can help me find her.
