Brewed again today, a sort of bock/brown ale. It was hot as balls out too today which helped none. Blech. Anyway the recipe follows for those in the know. The mash was performed at around 158 to obtain a lot of dextrins to compensate for the 100% fermentables. 90 minute boil total. All-in-all a very aromatic wort with strong notes of graham crackers and Cracker...

I'm back from Denver. Went to see John Butler Trio Saturday night. Awesome show. Awesome. The venue was pretty sweet too, and absolutely chock full of hot hippie babes. *Rawr*

I got a bit inebriated on some, um, substances and long story short I fell off a retaining wall. So if you see a fat guy on youtube falling off a ledge, it's me.

All...

Yeah, that's too bad. It's so good, but I grew up in a house where it was either too expensive (my dad, who spent the grocery money on pot) or with people who hated it (my mom and sister). Plus, if you don't serve it with half a stick of butter like I did, it's so good for you!
drstinkypants:
A retaining wall? Hope it was a short one.

I'll have to check one of those out. Paulaner's Salvator is one of my all time favorite beers and the first good beer I ever had, so I imagine their wheat beer is in the same league, though, trips to the beer store are a bit more rare now that there's an abundance of homebrew.

This is my doppelhopfweissbier at about 20 hours after pitching yeast.

And this is about 4 hours later.

UPDATE: I found some neat campgrounds in Oregon. So I went and bought a new tent so I can do a little roughing it once I get out that way.

Yea, you know, I never really got into wheat beers. I feel like I should like that kind of thing being as I'm half German... you got any good commercial wheat beer recommendations?
tinyhobo:
I don't think I can pronounce your beers name, I would have to just point to it..

Anyhow, I havn't talked with you in a bit, just wanted to say hello, and check in on you.

I found an apartment in Portland, and got approved today. Fan-fucking-tastic!

Now that I've got a loft I plan to wear more turtlenecks and talk about espresso a lot, and I may join a wine club.

Not too shabby.
I never thought too much of Portland (despite hearing incessant praise from my friends) but I heard Portland actually has more Breweries than any other city in the US, which makes me give it a second thought.
atomicant:
t's not too bad, but it's not the best part of town. you're closer to gresham (kind of a white trash, meth fueled suburb) than downtown proper. but you're only about 20-25 minutes from the inner east side and what not.

I hate the heat. I get all sticky and gross and crave ice cream which I shouldn't have because fatty is trying to lose weight. It's almost bikini season after all.

A volcanic AMEN to that sir.
I thought I'd be getting away from the heat moving a thousand miles north of Texas, only to find out it's humid... and they don't have central air most places. Oh the shit fucking irony

I'm making goulash, drinking english beer, and trying to figure out this damn ipod.

Also I decided the only way I'll ever get over my bad back is to lose some damn weight. So I threw out all my crap food and replaced it with stuff I should be eating. Yogurt instead of pudding, granola instead of doritos, etc. Tomorrow I go get a membership...

Drink lots of water and tea... I've lost about 10 pounds since I stopped drinking soda and went on tea. And I still drink beer (though in less copious amounts than you, dear sir). I'd probably lose more weight if I'd stop with the damned baked lays and random cookies... but I feel way better than I used to.

And ipods are easy... c'mon. biggrin

Good luck, man!

I'd like to thank Hydrocodone and alcohol for getting me through this last week of gut-wrenching back pain brought upon from heaving six gallons of ESB onto a counter. Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure you were blue. Well, my drunk ass is remedying that right now!

Is "remedying" a word? My spell-check isn't bitching @me, so I'm assuming "yes."

I bottled six gallons of ESB just a bit ago. Thirty-six 12oz, six 16oz, nine 22oz, and a single 32oz. Now the place smells like a british pub.

i thought your schtick was tinkering - in the kitchen, in the garage, in the garden shed (or whatever the U.S. equivalent for where a man homebrews is). Definitely tinkering of some sort.
