i wonder if my life would be different if i grew up somewhere else - or do you end up the same person no matter where you grow up more or less?

i grew up in a small town - about 5,000 people, 150 in my graduating class. i wasn't exposed to ANYTHING i like today. the town is almost 15,000 now - but i...

Having gone through the trials and triumphs of surviving a suburban high school, I would tell you: you didn't miss anything.

Yes, we had an advantage of being able to partake in all the things the 'Cities had to offer, getting the scoop on new music and whatnot. But, there were major pitfalls. If you dressed too well or outrageous, you were labeled a "fag". The cliques were inpenetrable, it was more like a caste system...no matter how you changed, you just kind of stuck in the same place.

My senior year of HS was good, and the memories of that make up for the other years of hell. Would I change it if I could? Maybe. Would I do it again? No f-in' way!

I like obscure holes-in-the-wall. The Twin Cities Marina in Inver Grove Heights is one of my fave Sunday Night joints.

Guiness' are cheap, the place feels like it belongs "up north", and the bartender (Bridget) is sexy as all-get-out.

There is a bar downtown St. Paul named Alary's. It has been a St. Paul institution since before I was born...owned by a guy who was in the Chicago Bears in the 1940's. During the week, it is a hangout for St. Paul cops & firefighters. On the weekend, it is just a funny dance of the damned. Cross the river, my friend! It's nutty over here!

i guy on the street asked me for 35 cents today.

why precisely 35 cents, why not just "spare change"? maybe for tax reasons he can only accept dontations up to 35 cents?

i talked him down to 27 cents.

done deal. biggrin

thoughts of newness and change make my bits and pieces tingle.

thoughts of spring in minneapolis energizes me.

thoughts of travel give me something to look forward to - who has a place for me to crash on my way?

Glad your shindig went well. I wound up getting all schnookered up at this wedding and became a pile by nights end. But luckily I smoothed the maid of honor over before I was totally incoherant.
