The cold is emanating from the frigid bitterness of Yankeees fans.

Just wanted to say I've genuienly enjoyed the discourse in the Red Cross thread. I've been following this pretty closely, mostly relying on NPR and the BBC. (Unemployment leaves me lots of time to read and worry about things.)

I'm trying my best to follow you through the thread. I had no idea about FEMA cutting the lines. No idea about the diesel ship. Maybe you could have offered up that info in a news post earlier. It's information people need to know.

It's a desperate situation and we're all scared. Hope all is well with you and those you care about.

Great Bragg line in the Hometown line btw.

ARRR!!!

is that pic really of her?
What's scary is I know where that bar is & what's even more scarier is I know what kind of bar that is.

But she IM'd me earlier she's alive & well & keepin the spirits up with that southern decadence pride festival going on right now.

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone, I know I've been a little slack about responding to everyone, but I do appreciate it.

The good news is that at least as of Wednesday morning, NOAA updated its satellite path and I have pretty good 3 meter imaging and my house is still there. More importantly the roof seems to be intact and the back deck is...

Monsatrell tells me baton Rouge could use supplies;FEMA hasn't locked them down yet. I'm also aiming for rural Mississippi which looks to have been largely ignored by federal efforts.

Any pointers?

I hope everything is okay for you back in NO.

I've been going through mood swings faster than cigarettes these days, and I've tried being pragmatic, and stoic and mature. I am genuinely grateful that my nearest and dearest are all safe and secure, and for the most part actually even comfortable where they've landed. I am likewise quite grateful that I'm an educated, middle class white guy with money in the bank and resources...

You seem to be doing well. I'm nowhere near the mess and it's hard not to freak out! I've been looking at the news and cannot believe my eyes. The response to this disaster has so far been absolutely disgraceful.

Please continue to let us know how you're doing, and if you know of any way to help. Donating to the Red Cross just doesn't feel like nearly enough. Volunteering for some local organizing of clothing and other supplies for shipment to the area once the chaos is sorted out, still not enough.

Heading into the streets and demanding the administration's collective head on a platter? Now that seems like a start...

I'm sorry for what you're going through ... I'm glad you're okay.

Update as of noonish today, the water hasn't gone away, but it isn't any deeper either. I should also note that this is, relatively speaking, good news, as my house is five feet off the ground.

Jesus Christ, man. I wish I had something more to offer than my relief that you and yours are alive and relatively well.

Take care, man.

Luckly, They called me Tues. and said they were in Galviston and were safe.

Well, the bar three blocks from my house was apparently in about three feet of water at some point today.

Probably means I'm in the market for a new car. Hopefully, thats all.

Addendum: Well, it seems that the levee up by the 17th street canal has let go, and is letting Lake Ponchiartrain into the city on the other side of my house. Joy.

Well, that wasn't bad as far as evacuations go, only took two hours longer than usual. Decided on Little Rock over Houston, and the primary danger in this neck of the woods is that Lucy wil be spoiled rotten by her grandparents.

Now, here's to hoping that the house doesn't blow away and well have power before Labor Day.

Glad to hear you made it out of town safe.. Hopfully it won't hit Little Rock too hard.

I sincerely hope you have something to go back home to...and, barring that, that you managed to take with you your most cherished heirlooms/possessions and the like.

Sure is dark in here with all the shutters closed. Up next: baby's first evacuation.

It probably says something about my age when the prelude to a rollicking weekend is new computer hardware and a TV show worth watching.
