My dear young fellow, I get the impression you are waiting for a girl to give up on cruel, nasty guys and settle down with you because you are so very nice and decent. This is the kind of thinking we all employ at one time or another, but there's another way to look at it. She has made her preferences clear all along and you don't want to accept it because you assume that your perceptions of the world are universal. This girl believes that abusive guys are what she will be happy with, but only when she finds the right one, perhaps the one that doesn't abuse her, or maybe only when she "really deserves it." Trust me, most of us have been there and it's a sad situation for sure. We can unfortunately only offer friendship or love and then live with the choice that the other person makes. We can control only our own decisions, even when we have the best of intentions. Only you can decide if rekindling a friendship and being supportive while she searches for more pain is potentially beneficial to either of you going forward. You may want to consider befriending someone who would benefit more. Good luck. I know it's disappointing.
