In Paris now, and living it up. My train ride went well, and I spent last night barhopping in Montmartre with a dozen fellow young Anglophone tourists I met in the hostel. Now I'm exploring the Left Bank on foot, trying not to gawk, and loving it. Ok that's it since I'm out of time on this e-caf terminal. au revoir!

That sounds so fun. I need to travel again soon. Probably not until summer again though. cheers !

Still in England, but only for tonight. Tomorrow I'm taking a train to Paris to start the Continental part of this journey. Once I get out of my older family members' house and into hostels, I expect this trip will get a lot wilder. So far it's been pretty tame, though very interesting.

It's been so long since the last update, I couldn't possibly describe...

Still in London. My initial wide-eyed-mouth-open wonder has worn off a bit, but I'm still enjoying every minute of my time here in the UK. The only drag, besides the weather, is that I'm not meeting anyone, owing partly to my own shyness, but also because this seems to be a very shy country. hmm, how to get around that? I guess I just have...

I foun when traveling abroad alone that it was difficult to meet people as well. I think your best bet is talking to people while standing in line for things, that's how I had my best experiences. I occasionally met people in hostels too, though that was more hit or miss.

wow. London. my first time overseas and I'm thrilled, as well as surprised not to be overwhelmed with culture shock.

my first airline flight (aptly, on Virgin Airways) was pleasant and much better than I'd been led to expect, even for Economy class. But between the non-reclining seats, turbulence and a screaming child or two, I only managed to get an hour of shut-eye on...

Glad to hear you're having a great time. London is a good place to start a European journey to minimize the culture shock. It soften the blow for when you cross the channel. smile Just keep reminding everyone you meet from Europe that not all Americans are gun-toting Bush-loving rednecks!!

so my time in Fresno has been rather uneventful, marked by running errands and trying to tie off all the loose ends before my Europe trip. Many of which are still unresolved, unfortunately. But nothing is a big deal, and I'm very very excited. My flight leaves SFO on Tuesday, and I arrive in London on Wednesday. I'll be staying with family in London for...

*sigh*

back in Fresno now. My trip back was rushed and unceremonial, and I didn't even cry to be leaving Santa Cruz (at least not once I actually did). I'm glad SUPERMAN and my other friends made it out to the Red Room to wish me off, that was fun, and you're right, I'll be back in Santa Cruz before I know it. I don't...

Awesome! Have a grea time on your trip. My advice - it's tempting to try and see all of Europe in a few weeks. But it's not worth it. Pick a few spots and really try to get to know them - there's so many interesting things to see besides the major tourist destinations. Europe will still be there, you can always go back. smile

current music: Billy Bragg and Wilco - California Stars
current mood: wistful frown

People and things I'll miss about Santa Cruz:

- Living in a small town that still has a cosmopolitan flair to it, with just about every scene you could think of, and being able to jump between them too.
- A vibrant, diverse music scene, especially for a city of our size
-...

glenn gould sure is great. damn sexy, too biggrin I like a ton of other things that are not on my profile, of course, didn't really list any of the classical stuff since there just isn't room :p Haven't seen that film yet but I plan on it.

You'll have fun in europe. And then you'll have new things to miss, when you leave.

This will be my last weekend in Santa Cruz frown

After next Friday, I'm leaving for Europe, then coming back to the States to start living my life and making a career, but I can't afford to do that here in SC.

So I'm gonna make these three days count. That means lots of beach time, some long walks in the redwoods, and enjoying the company...

I friended you since I saw your comment in the anarchist group about Zerzan. HI!
pygmy:
Yeah.. I don't totally agree with Zerzan, either, by any means.. Actually I think he's kind of a hack... Albeit a hack with a few good ideas.
A few journal entries back in my profile I explain my plans for the coming years.. Might be of interest.
Friends are good! smile

ouch. I had to do a bunch of work today out in the sun, and I didn't put on any sunscreen or anything, so now I have a bright, painful, redneck. The worst part is, being a redneck is starting to warp my brain! must....fight....change..... NO! Bush is great! FOUR MORE YEARS! Stockula is a genius, and not racist or a troll at all! I...

saw Garden State today, loved it. It was funny and moving at once.

Still bored, but the good news is that my computer, which mysteriously stopped working, has now mysteriously started working again. So I'm assuaging my boredom by downloading lots of music from BitTorrent.

Being up on campus in the summer sucks ass, especially without a car. I loved being up here during the...

back from a family weekend over the hill. My sister was thrilled to be moving into her new dorm at Cal, and starting her college career. I tried to contain my jealousy at her getting to go to Berkeley, but then I shouldn't worry about it - Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz are apples and oranges. mmmm, oranges.

um, where was I? Oh yeah, this...

Not much going on out here. Summer slumps.

And Berkeley was fun, but I'm sure Santa Cruz was good too. The people I met who went there were generally a lot cooler and more chill than the folks I knew at Cal. Apples and Oranges, like you said.

I'm writing from my new shoebox apartment in the lovely Kresge (UCSC) dorms, my humble abode from now until September 10th, when I will be leaving Santa Cruz frown

the move went well enough, though it was incredibly hectic and tiring. I packed my dad's van so full of unneeded stuff that he couldn't take my cousin, who's visiting from England, back with him. So he...
