I used to have a Focus that ran out of steam at 110, but it pulled like a rocket to get there. Far more realistic to have a car that sprints like fuck to a 'safe' 100. My experience suggests that's characteristic of modern turbodiesels.

Sounds like an electronic trick-out for the air mass sensor to think it's warmer, less dense air and hose in more fuel.
