Moved 30 or 40 miles to Maryland: completely different story.
Got rear-ended 2 times while I was stopped a red lights; someone totalled my car while it was parked in a parking space by hopping a curb and driving 10 feet over grass to hit it (hit and run, of course); got T-boned in driiver's side of my aluminum-body Honda by a lady in a giant SUV that had a steel bumper. She drove out of a parking space without looking.
All this happened in Maryland in about 14 years; 2 times within a hundred feet of my house, once a few blocks away, and once 4 miles away, a block or two from my office. Terrible, compared to just across the state line in Virginia!
Where you drive seems to make a huge difference; bad driving seems to be endemic to certain areas. Maryland, you need work!!
If that uninsured lady had been doing only 25 miles an hour but was driving an SUV and hit you on the driver's side when she ran the stop sign you would be dead right now. My agent told me that he lost one of his clients exactly that way.
So sorry to hear about your car. Hope you are fine after the pain medication wears off. Smile if you see an auto safety engineer. These guys are the heroes of the road: I hope their companies do not take their skills for granted!!
