Thanksgiving was ok. Just three of us, as various tragedies and a date had everyone else in the house out attending to whatever it was that came up. Two friends Ive known since 4th grade are in the hospital and one may not walk again.
The food was great and got eaten as leftovers by everyone.

My son developed some awful stomach flu that has...

Whew!! That sounds like an atrocious weekend!!! Hope the friends are okay & out of the hospital soon. frown
And good luck with Jr. & sick manners... eeek

Being young and sick is awful. I hope he feels better soon. When I was young I suffered from migraine headaches (well actually I still do), but when I was a young one and I needed to do the puke thing it would happen so fast that I basically had to have a trash can lined with a garbage bag with me until the headache passed.

I've been cleaning carpets and all sorts of things because of the lil 12 week old puppy I have. He's not quite house broken yet frown

This is pretty cool, it is a 2.5GIGApixel picture composed of 600 images. It is insane, you can scroll and zoom around on it and see the tiniest details of all kinds of things. My voyeuristic side was getting its rocks off peeking in windows and cars. Even way back you can see amazing details. The gothic church slightly above dead center is...

I checked it out, but didn't spend too much time with it, it is definitely cool though. It's almost similar to some hilariously gigantic "Where's Waldo" Picture.

that was really neat, kept me occupied.

Well, the dental drama continues. I went and bought a scraper thing and did my own cleaning on myself, which turned out pretty well. I actually can see a difference and I bought a bleaching kit and have bleached the hell out of them too, so Im not going to pay some asshat to do either of those services for me again. They look really...

That officially sucks on the dental stuff. Those discount plans are pretty much a rip anyway.

If you want to put fear into the heart of the dentist's office -- write a letter to the AZ State Board of Dental Examiners (postal address and web link below). Be very professional, calm, polite, and be sure to include the magic words "provided treatment to a minor child in direct contradiction to the orders of the accompanying parent". You can also find out who carries the malpractice insurance on the office and send them the same complaint.

Yes, you will suddenly find Nurse Ratched calling you "ma'am" and you just might see a 100% refund.

You ever feel like youve been raped?

I had the worst experience with a dentist over the last couple of days. I have a tooth that I know has a small gum line cavity in it. When I quit my job to go to school full time and then run my business on the side, I signed up for COBRA which at the rate of...

It'd be really punk rock in the DIY sense if people could just do their own dental hygienist stuff. I don't mean dental surgery, I mean just the cleaning and flouride and so forth. I hardly think it would be harder or more dangerous than, say, doing your own motorcycle repair or welding metal sculpture, and you don't need a professional license for that stuff. Of course, most people would stick with the Obey the Professional mindset, but it'd be nice to be able to opt out.
legionnaire:
That completely sucks, I'm really sorry to hear about it. I haven't been to the dentist for three years because I can't afford the insurance policy either, and I really regret it. I just hate the way our medical system screws over anyone who isn't covered through an employer. Did you know that medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy filings in the US? What's wrong with this picture?

I have another big project due for school, so I shall be fairly unresponsive for the next few days. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm sorry I don't have time to post in your journals personally right now.

P.S. TS thank you for the flowers!!! I love getting flowers I can't wait until spring when they all come up, my garden will be amazing!!...

Regardless, Good luck. I hope it turns our super-fantastic-mega-okie-dokie. I'm still waiting to see images of the last project.

Since the election a lot of things have not set well with me. The reemergence of the ultraconservative Christian right as a governing body is intensely disturbing to me. While Im the first to admit this countrys founding fathers were sexist, racist, Protestants whose views would be disgusting by todays standards, I understand they had their own upbringings to overcome and their own ignorance and...

The best arguement I can muster for gay marriage is the lack of an arguement against it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the only reason to ban it is because it offends the religous/moral beliefs of the Christian Right. To introduce laws against it would be a clear show of support to a religious faction (albeit a large one), and if I'm not mistaken, religous biases and reasoning are not considered legitimate grounds to take legislative action according to the constitution. Therefore, the laws are unconstitutional, and are subject to be overturned by the supreme court.

Although this arguement is more about politics than civil liberties, I think it is the best way to approach this issue because its a simple way to achieve the goal. To centre the arguement around morals is to argue a set of beliefs, and it is much more difficult to change people's beliefs rather than simply point out that the laws would be "un-American" and do nothing more than deprive people of the very freedom that the country stereotypically prides itself on reserving for all. Although the issue of civil liberties is important, and in my opinion desperately needs to be addressed, I do not think it is likely to solve the problem all at once. By first eliminating some of the political concerns, the issue can at least achieve some stability and then can be explored with less (dare I say it) hysteria.

This is by no means an air-tight arguement, and since I'm not an American I wouldn't be surprised if some of the assumptions made here are quite incorrect. If anyone has any corrections/rebuttals, feel free to let me know, because I haven't really heard any discourse that looks at the issue from the perspective I do.

Hmmm...interesting stuff.

I actually disagree with a large percentage of what you said, but I can tell this isn't the forum likely to be open to a emotion-free debate on the topic. For proof of that, note all the "tolerant" people calling their philosophical opposites names suitable for a 3rd grade playground.

I got my Ikea bench thing finally today, and I sewed a bunch of cute pillows for my bed. I made replicas in better quality fabrics of the $149 Calvin Klein pillow that is supposed to go with my sheets set. Funny, I looked at that pillow in the store and decided it was not a pillow I'd ever want to hug or hold. It...

You sound like a regular Martha Stewart! Only with a gothy twist! wink Very cool. I'd like to learn to reappholster furniture.

I don't care for the fact that a vote was even placed on the ballot in various states about same-sex marriage. It just flies in the face of everything our country was about: religion out of government! The reason people voted against it (from what I've heard) is that the Church & God determine that only a man & woman be allowed to marry. To make that a voting issue is just wrong. I truly hope that those states will at the least, allow a same-sex couple legal rights that most married people are accostomed to. I also feel that marriage isn't all it's cracked up to be. So for someone like myself, I hope that the laws aren't changed so much that if I were to live with a long-term partner I could still qualify for legal rights with them. Plus, it proves to me that the majority of voters in those states believe they have the right to decide everyone else's moral codes for them. That just ain't right!!! mad

I stayed up until 4am on a weird baking spree. I was in the mood for egg pies apparently. So I now have a spinach quiche, a quiche Lorraine, and a delectable pecan pie. Mmmmm. They all turned out fabulous! I make everything from scratch and with organic whole or near whole ingredients. It takes longer, but the taste is so worth it. I am...

I was reminded of your post on patents when I heard on the radio about Becky Schroeder, the youngest female inventor in U.S. history.

Aged 10, she invented a glow in the dark clip board that allowed people to write on ordinary paper in the dark. Her invention was called the Glo-Sheet

That's perfect for an SG called Midnyte.

Yesterday was a little unusual. I was sitting at my computer when the window started shaking and I heard a loud rumble. I looked out my window and saw two F-16s flying over at no more than 1000 feet off the ground. I ran outside and there was a small twin prop plane circling over my neighborhood very very low. The F-16s turned around and...

Don't feel bad about being freaked out. Did you hear what happend in New Jersey a couple of days ago? Yep, an F16 shot up an elementry school with 25 rounds in the middle of the night. It was the national guard. They were off their target by 3 miles! No shit!

Wasn't it a national guard plane that cliped that gondola in Italy a few years back?

Scary shit man.

Today was interesting. I had some nice Jehovahs Witnesses drop in on me. A couple of 83 and 79 year old men who were very nice. We had a nice talk and I got a copy of the Watchtower. Ill probably not read it but I like to make a point to be nice to these people. We have a lot of young Latter Day...

I am compleatly humbled by you, I could not see myself doing those things. I think I am a kind hearted person but I can't listen to the different people talking about religion. I don't care what religion people are, or how they worship that religion as long as it doesn't hurt anyone but when they come to your home to convert you, that is to much for me.

You seem intelligent and have a kind heart, you are a very lovely woman. And they say beauty is only skin deep.
