I really like that that Rammstein video.

I went to an Iron Man double feature tonight. Between movies we had like 50 minutes to wait. I thought of this video while day dreaming. It would be awesome if i were to win the lottery and make one of my own.

This has been a weapon filled birthday for my son. We built the potato cannon last night and this evening we just finished assembling a "desktop" trebuchet kit, which is actually really big, about knee high. I bought him the more expensive one because it came with wheels and had a wood counterweight bucket but I didn't realize it was at least half again bigger...

Damn! That's a great idea. Maybe I'll get my brother that for a wedding gift! If there are other similar schools in the southeast

His friends are going to be jealous that he has such a cool mom. For that matter, I think most of his friend's dads are going to want you to adopt them. biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

Will we get action shots of potato cannon and trebuchet time?

I decided there is a time in every young mans life where a potato cannon is in order. For my son, his 17th birthday seemed like a good enough time as any.

I took him to the hardware store yesterday and we bought all the stuff and last night we assembled the beast. Thankfully I had a whole 5 lb sack of apples which had...

My semester of school is coming to an end here and I took a semester off for the house we are probably not getting. We went back the bank/seller with a pretty lowball offer, 16% under their asking price and the list of costly repairs (fixing a house on a mountain side is EXPENSIVE!!) and now we are playing more of the waiting game. Since...

I think I might be walking away. We have had such a battle over this cool house and now that I won it I'm thinking I will have to walk away from it. I loved the vintage nature of the house, unfortunately when people let their houses be in vintage condition I guess that means they are total losers about normal maintenance too. First it...

Sounds like a wise move. It's one thing if you got the place for free or close to it, but if you're paying anywhere near market value there is no case to be made for a place with multiple expensive and complex structural issues, especially in this market.

A few weeks ago I posted my FAIL chocolate syrup bottle. Yesterday I went to the store and bought another bottle and it was marked as 10% calcium rather than 0%. I wonder if they changed their formula or if their packaging was a misprint. The +Calcium product has been around since 2003 I think, so unless they had a recent packaging redesign I really...

I think there is a curse on my husbands family. His ancestors decimated Native American lands and if there is any truth to curses I would say it has been brought upon them. When I got married into the family, by pure coincidence it was the same anniversary as his parents marriage. My father had a massive stroke and later died the Monday after Easter...

I'm glad to not have in-laws right now.

they don't treat you LIKE family, they're not really family. If you want to reach out to the "new girl", that seems understandable. but the rest are pricks.

"His ancestors decimated Native American lands and if there is any truth to curses I would say it has been brought upon them."

I supposedly have some Indian ancestors. and they say "Take THAT, honkies!"
gadget:
Obviously it sounds like his family is beyond awful. Obviously, you are not. So, I would try to rise above everything that happened to you and realize that you feeling this guilt isn't helping any one. Or penalizing your sister in law for something she wasn't involved in. I don't know, even if it back fired, my guilt would probably get the better of me (even if that's not the most healthy way for things to transpire) and I would do something to make things better for HER. Fuck the brother. If anything give her a gift card to a spa or something. Something that can ONLY be for her and of no benefit to him. That's what I would do anyway, but I also have an issue with constantly taking care of people even if it's at an emotional expense to myself.

Not sure what else to say. You're an intelligent and wonderful woman. Either way I'm confident you will make the right decision for yourself.

It's a funny thing how hiring the reputed best real estate lawyer in town gets people to speak to you in a different tone. We haven't even had our meeting yet but we did let the other party know we have hired him. Our agent also notified them of his intent to sue for his lost commission if they back out of this deal.

They...

mmm, them lawyers...i may be needing to find one well-versed in ADA regulations soon, hoping my work situation doesn't come to that.

best of luck with the house though!

i just wanted to thank you for your response to my post about fundraising in the GO group...it was incredibly sweet of you to write so much, it's obvious you're a very kind and giving person, it means a lot. i've forwarded the info along to the family, as i'm not sure what routes they're ready to pursue just yet. for now the little guy's doing better at the hospital, not in as much pain, much better spirits, so that's at least a glimmer of goodness.

thanks again sweetheart, you're the best. smile

I'm really pissed about this whole house thing. I think the lawyer will straighten it out on Monday and we will probably be ok, but I guess I don't really know. I was reading online that some agents do this, since they are not obligated to provide any proof of another offer, as a way to try to extort more money from buyers. Wow, is...

This is why you use a lawyer (*your* lawyer) to represent your interests in the buying process instead of a real estate agent. Often, real estate agents pointedly do NOT have your best interests at heart, and equally often state laws and protections against agent conflicts of interest and misconduct are shockingly weak.

BTDT, never having a real estate agent represent my interests (buying or selling) ever again.

The lawyer for the AZ association of Realtors says they are acting illegally. We have already started escrow. They are stubbornly sticking to their guns and trying to be dicks. I said that must be one hell of another offer. We have stellar credit, top 2%, we have a decent down payment, a reputable lender and our offer they accepted and we accepted is only...

Dayum. You know, I definitely support your struggle to keep people from commiting an injustice towards you. I mean.. you don't even know if there really is a 'Better' offer. This could be a case of discrimination becasue of something they discovered about you that they don't approve of. It burns me when people are like that. But all that being said, wresting a house from someone who doesn't want you to have it seems like a very sad way to aquire a new home. So much bad karma right of the bat, you know. frown

OH MY GOD!!! I am LIVID!!! There is some ethically corrupt bullshit going on with the house we are buying. Our offer was accepted, we accepted their counter, we sent in signed accepted contract on Wednesday. We have inspections scheduled etc. Now, AFTER this, another offer came in, AFTER they accepted our offer, after we sent back signed and agreed and $5000 in earnest money,...

I got April Foolsed. By my bank of all things. My son came to me and told me his bank card was missing. We had been in the seedy part of Scottsdale returning the rent a car and picking up my car from the body shop. Since he is a teen his account is tied to mine. I pulled out my credit card and called...
