I am an atypical woman. I do not, not have I ever, had a friend who's sole purpose was to put me down & be a pain in my ass. Women like that aren't friends, and I wouldn't allow them to speak to me. Period!
The only person who I measure myself up to is me!! If I'm not happy with where I am, I do not bother to compare myself with another person. Because only I can change where I am in my life. Comparing my life to someone else's is totally futile. No one has the "perfect" life. I sometimes catch myself thinking maybe I'd be better off if I had a more "normal" life, like some people I know. Then I realize that I am not like them & never will be. That's what makes me who I am. So, maybe in a sense, I see everyone else as the catalyst in my life, in a group. But not in a negative way. It's a fact that we all have different paths to follow in this thing we call a life & neither is better. They are simply different from each other. You already know all of this, based on your Zen references....
I don't like to argue much, but I do respect others' opinions, even if I disagree. Like you said, I haven't lived their life, therefore, I cannot know what has led them to their own belief(s)! I have learned a lot from hearing about other people's experiences. I enjoy many discussions for that reason. I also enjoy discussions with people who understand my views & agree with most of them. Okay, I'm done with that line of thought...
Thanks for provoking me into thinking about these things. It helps me reaffirm my own sense of self!

I totally spent $50 in books last night and it was good. And I finished Diary last night; yeah. It kind of sucked.

I'm going to go out of my mind soon, because they're still building that house across the street from me, and I'm trying to write, but the goddamn jack-hammering is KILLING ME. I need ear-plugs...or sound-proof walls and windows, whatever's more accessible. God.
