I just went from old boring soul-killing job that pays decently to new somewhat-less-boring job that pays 50% more!

Huzzah, 20 pounds for the king!

Now I just hope those plane tickets somewhat bought me weren't non-refundable...

_dictionarygirl_:
Oooh, Rope is a damn good film. (As are a good deal, I've found, when it comes to Hitchcock.) See, and now I know my history. I hadn't heard of the true story when I first saw the movie.

Congratulations on a job less boring! biggrin
surgicalsnack:
it does, and i suppose that's what counts.

Oh, I guess you're one of those people who thinks everyone should chill out? And hey, there's a lot to be said for chilling out. But honestly? You know SFA about what my life is like right now. I think I'm allowed a moment of spazzery every so often. Thanks.

Notes on the Joys of Epistolery Novels and Nautical Imagery:

I find something immensely pleasing about reading well-written correspondence, whether to others in the form of letters, or to oneself in the form of diaries. It doesn't seem to matter whether the work is fictional or real.. there's something quite lovely about the form itself.

I was reading Harry Mathews' The Sinking of the Odradek...

Funny, but I'm not sure if I've read a purely-letters book. I'm sure I must have. Oh, there's Feelings Sorry for Celia, which is an Australian young-adult novel but pretty absurdist. It's told through letters and notes, because this girl and her mom have such a weird-relationship they NEVER see each other so the mom only talks to her daughter through fridge-stuck notes (they live in the same house but never meet up face to face). Also, Sophie's World has some letters between characters in different states of being.

I have a Virgin cell phone with charger that will only work in the United States.

I'd like to strange it for a strange/unique/interesting/cool/etc item.

What do you got?

Good. Naming streets after policiticians is for hosers.

Does that mean I can get some kind of Lemonkid discount at the cinema? wink
posh:
Yeah, there are two. Aspen is cool. The other one is being a spazz in the gamer group. It's pretty hilarious.

When it comes to films I'd say I'm a tough crowd - a casually vicious critic who expects only the best of the best. But that means when something comes along and flips my wig I'm happy as a Hashisist initiate in a gardenful of sacred prostitutes soaking in sunshine and opiates.

When video stores disappear (as they will) I'll miss the delightful opportunity to...

Notes on Adding to the Cultural Lexicon:

I was in the metro striking up a conversation with co-workers, like you do, and my co-worker told a story about a neighbourhood bar involved a false wall.

This prompted me to tell my own story involving a false wall.

The poor 3rd co-worker unfortunately had no false wall story.

On thinking of this I noted how it's...

Okay it's time to get serious.

But not sober.

Never, ever sober. Especially after buying some ambrosiac apple cider with a high alcohol content and a scotch-like feel to it.. amazing.

In other news, a few not so salient, albeit brief reviews:

X-Men 3 - the Last Stand - Entertaining, but they should have adapted the Grant Morrison material in my opinion.. congrats for killing...

I liked most of Jubilee... granted, it sorta runs out of fuel at the end.... but I do love Jordan so, Ms. Amyl Nitrate.
cheech:
Exactly! "Rule Britannia" is the segment of the movie I bootlegged, sort of a music video moment. I like the cackling mad-ass bald guy, too. The movie could've used more a that.

Tonight I chatted with Joanna Newsom (and was wowed by her show), traded sartorial tips with David Byrne, and spoke with assorted solo artists, members of the Arcade Fire & the Hidden Cameras, have lovely ladies giving me the eye and drank down some sweet sweet ale.

Last night was some old cowboy stories with Ramblin' Jack Elliot and tomorrow's rockin' out to Roky Erickson....

I've read the first two or three chapters. Brilliant, but so fundamentally empty that I could go no further. I have enough diarrhea in my own brain, I don't need somebody else's.
acidgrampa:
I usually try to finish what I start, but I knew that just wasn't going to be worth it.

Michel Houellebecq's books, on the other hand, are well worth it.

But I think we already established that.

I didn't know this was happening, thanks for posting it. I wish somebody would put together a silent auction or something, I would make something really special for donation.
Wait a minute. Do I need to go back and click all the links on that wikipedia page? I probably rolled right over the big "silent auction donation" link.
