A somewhat uneventful day. Ran some errands.
Listened to Love's "Forever Changes" album about a zillion times. A young Arthur Lee is a hot Arthur Lee.
Hung around the radio station, ate some sandwiches, bought a book (Avant-Gardening ed. Peter Lamborn Wilson, if you must know), and got some books from the school library. Me reads too many of the books.
Then my friend Lydia...

I'm back from Winnipeg. Yay! It feels nice to be home. I got into the university about 10 mins before I had to do my radio show (Toast in the Machine), which I tiredly completed.
2 more days of driving. This time we took the Crowsnest Highway back which is prettier, but longer. But some cool things along the way. I'm going...

You make Winnipeg sound lovely. Yes, the famous Crater Lake is where I'm headed tommorrow night (after a massive sushi fest).
You know when you go to certain cities (sometimes) the great things stick in your head. Well for me Winnipeg will be filled with cute french girls who like free jazz, l'alcool gratuit, great radio, decadent summer heat, and Mondragon - a coffeehouse/alternative bookstore run by an anarchist collective.
The Yo La Tengo show is still echoing in my head. I can't believe the last...

I can't say for certain where I read this, but: the Cash/YLT tour was not too recent, so most of the people there to see Cash were not part of his late 90's rediscovery among hipsters. People in Georgia threw bottles at them (like the Blues Brothers!), and they were booed off the stage most nights. Apparently the Georgia crowd really got to them, so they played forever, and made lots redneck jokes along the way.
Did they play any other covers? When is the Yo La Tengo covers record coming out? Wouldn't it be amazing?

i had the best sushi though. it was on that street with all the cool stores... can't remember the name but it was across from an internet cafe and beside a tatoo parlour. but winnepeg is big so you probably have no idea what i am talking about *feeling sheepish*

When they feel like it, they can be amazing. By the same token, I fear the day I see Yo La Tengo play when they're in a bad mood. Have you heard the stories about them opening for Johnny Cash?
bryn:
its a book of 5 short stories about girls struggling to survive in this day in age. and illustrated in self-portraits. hmmm....
Well I'm in Vancouver today. Flew in on the floatplane with my friend Lydia and that was fun.. saw my city from the air.
Ran around Vancouver.. visited Scratch Records (not so great) and Zulu Records (great).. bought a few cds. (anyone notice a pattern here?) some Rolling Stones albums I don't have, DJ Spooky, and an Alex Chilton (Big Star)/Alan Vega (Suicide) album that's...

yes. i do indeed think we have different ideas of what art fags are. just come visit manayunk, or old city on first fridays. then youll get my definition. actually, all you have to do is somehow get to a gallery opening in NYC, preferably chelsea. then you will know.

Yo La Tengo is the band that makes me feel warm inside every time I think about the depressing state of contemporary rock music. That said, be careful around YLT. Given their reputation, you could very well be the recipient of some Sean Penn-style behavior, especially regarding the non-judicious use of flash. Ask them to do Absolutely Sweet Marie, or Take Care, or one of their thousands of brilliant covers.
What is this Chilton/Vega record you speak of? I have this mental blockage when it comes to Chilton after Big Star, like I know there's greatness there, but I just can't be bothered to seek it out. Just the idea of the blue-eyed soul stuff sounds great, but it's a will thing, you know?

Well now. What amazing things can I regale all with? Nothing really.
Went to my philosophy of religion class today.. wasn't that interesting.. at least the teacher is taking better control of the class so that crazy people aren't ranting over the discussion. Grr.
Then I met up w/ this cute girl that I had training with for community respite work. She showed me around...

Then I went into my "Jack Nitzsche Special". That was fun, played stuff from the Lonely Surfer solo...
