I think sometimes you know what you are going to like later, in a way of knowing that isn't really conscious -- can't be, or you would argue, be repulsed, etc. This part of oneself looks forward, as if preparing the place one's admiration will occupy, or as if understanding how it "all happens at once," but experience can only take what it can take at a particular time. I think I remember something in "Hagakure" saying, don't sweat the big stuff, and take small things seriously, in more eloquent wording of course. Maybe I am reading into incorrectly, but maybe all things should be of equal importance, the big stuff shouldnt weigh you down, and the small stuff shouldnt be taken too lightly. 
On the Halloween costume arena, I say redundancy in your choice of costumes is OK. Leather and vinyl should be incorporated into everyone's costumes dont you think? Imagine a bondage Frankenstein. Nun costumes have been my personal favorite, not to wear, but to see others wear. Mmmhmmm.
