I agree with Amy, you do need that balance between being the responsible adult and retaining the child-like wonder of it all.
If you ever get time to read just for the fun of it, Charles de Lint has some wonderful books that might interest you. His genre has been called urban fantasy by some and while it contains some harsh realities, there is that constant reminder that we all have our own inner magic. A perfect escape when you need it most. One of my favorite short stories is Uncle Dobbin's Parrot Fair. It's among this collection but I must admit, I love all of his works.
