You are entirely right, of course. I was just amused that it sounded like a cheap FX pedal. My bad.
It is a good demo of the effect, actually. It's just that we're moving into a post-Photoshop world, where people's first reaction when they run across a piece of film which "looks strange" is "oh, they shot that on a sound stage in Pasadena". So yeah, I plead guilty to being far too cynical.
They did show a condensed half hour version of Mythbusters on BBC2 a few years ago and yes Brainiac is only on Sky. It mostly involves blowing up caravans
Ha, I'm sure it'll be more of a pfft and fizz than big bang, but the possibilities are interesting nontheless.
The scifi geek in me loves the theory that the LHC will inadvertently create a mini universe which they can't even see and won't know about.
I was homeless at 15 so my A levels were taken around a full time and a part time job. When I eventually got an educational stage where I could take a Degree, I had neither the support nor ineterst to actually do it unfortunately, a lot of things were going on

Also, can anyone give me UK holiday recommendations? I want to try and go somewhere for a couple of days this week. All suggestions welcome!
yes, fall is not a season for everybody
i really love the gloomy light and the short days. maybe it's because i'm a nightworker and i'm used to be awake when it's dark outside!
and i love the colours and the smell of fall. i spend so many hours with walking through woods and smell this special "fall air".
(i have the "master of puppets" and " justice for all" but not the black one. )
Also, if Johnny Depp is in it, I will have to give Mr Nolan a very stern talking to. You might as well cast Robbie Williams or Catherine Tate or someone equally awful.
I still haven't managed to see The Dark Knight. And today I read something which seems to give away part of the ending on this site (that'll teach me for clicking on rumour stories about the next Batman film). So to console myself, I watched Tim Burton's original Batman again for the first time in years. And all I have to say is:
I will PM you a link to her flickr. Whenever I think of Aphex Twin I think of that photo - his face on a woman's body. Sheesh, it freaks me out just to imagine it!
George Stubbs - you are right, that's the fella. I have also see some stuff by a Welsh fella who is heavily influenced by him, but all that's only local to the mid-welsh coast as far as I know. Can't remember his name anyways up.
When I saw that at work I could imagine a sort of whooshing in and out, like inhaling and exhaling... but I couldn't hear it. One of my friends on flickr has synesthesia or whatever it's called. She tries to produce photographic art to illustrate the colours that she sees with the sound of certain words - it's fascinating!
I get you with the side on view paintings... the name eludes me too, but I'm getting both dog and horse.
Fact of the matter is, the Americans are going to have to get used to the idea that they are overconsuming, and that the rest of the world is going to catch on sooner or later. Same goes for the Australians (especially), Canadians, Europeans. The Chinese will have to lump it - though their high population density should make that easier to stomach, they just haven't got enough space to pollute the way the Americans can.
I have chickened out of telling the SG membership that, at least so far.
Peel discovery? 3 Mustaphas 3, without a doubt. Also, the Slits. I gather he was also playing Palace Brothers (i.e. Will Oldham's various bands), but I missed it. Also, he played Siouxsie + the Banshees' The Scream straight through, first chance he got - it was absolutely fucking mesmerising. A great record, after all these years. (Yeah, I'm old.)
