Who's tired of me bitching? Ooh, ooh! I am, I am! Okay, so it's unanimous.
My brother left a few hours ago. It was a good visit; we spent most of the time complaining about our father. Bro's got a Jamaican girlfriend, and pops, who's a man of colour himself, which makes us his offspring walking multicultural artifacts, is prejudiced against every other colour, so...

Not much to say. Bought the re-issue of Miles "Filles De Kilimanjaro" this afternoon so I can give my brother the old one when he comes tomorrow.
"The Bicycle Thief" is the most wonderful movie ever. I understand that now.
Ever had a conversation with someone full of ideals but totally lacking a sense of humour? Oh, they think they've got one because they notice...

my current spin on things is
i am mortal and ignorant.
how can *I* know god?
there might be,
there might not be.
i will not know till the day comes
when i cross to another place
or float in oblivion.
either way i try (somtimes badly)
to live my life fully
and laugh with all my heart and fears and love
as often as life will let me.
if my choices brings me eternal damnation
thats a okay because i lived it
in the ways that I chose!
and anyone that tells me i'm wrong
does not understand that
this
is
MY

A friend lent me the new Nick Cave album; how sad I was to find it thoroughly mediocre. Luckily, I threw in the DVD with the video for "Babe, I'm on Fire" before listening to it. That song and video let me forgive a lot of what's wrong with the rest of the album.

So my brother, the 21 year-old, was supposed to visit me this weekend. I was figuring he'd come Friday or Saturday, but he says he'll come on Sunday and leave on Monday. So I can forget about taking him to pub night to meet my friends. And I can forget about taking a walk with him to the huge CD store. I didn't think he'd...

Well, you buy a cheap webcam, you get no software. How it's a webcam without software to make it function as a webcam is a bit beyond me, but I suppose once you've decided to be a beggar, the chooser's clothes just won't fit right.

Your absolutely right. Sometimes burning every bridge behind you is the only way to move forward. We can't be who we were before, and any attempts to do so usually end up impressing no one, least of all ourselves.
Take that Clash album and listen to the whole thing. Then listen to it again. Then again if necessary. The answers will come. They are around us at all times, just waiting.
Go ahead and take a look at my journal. It's full of sound and fury and signifies almost nothing.

Evening, folks. I've begun what I hope will be a daily routine: copying out a paragraph by an author whose style I admire. I just copied the first paragraph of "On the Quai at Smyrna" by Hemingway. I once heard this was a good way to warm up, or to better understand an author's style. I agree. It's like acting. Anyway, it's better than doing...

Great method. I think our own styles are better developed when we borrow other artists' techniques.

Eliot once said, "Immature poets imitate, good poets steal." Damn straight.
What a finicky bitch I feel like I've been lately. No matter--last night was wonderful. Alex came over with her guitar (poor cracked, hockey taped thing!) and we played a bunch of Gram Parsons songs and drank beer in my kitchen. I felt like a musician for the first time in a very long time (and I sounded like one too).
So now I've got...

Am I the only person annoyed by people who don't know the difference between "their" "there" and "they're"? Or "who's" and "whose"? They're completely frickin' different words, for chrissakes! Nobody can go "their". "Whose" on first doesn't make any goddamn sense.

I am horrified. There are bugs in my building. Not just any bugs. Not ants or spiders. No, nothing you'd recognize. They are what I call carpet-crawlers. They're multilegged little beasts with inch-long bodies and a couple dozen legs that kick and kick even after they've been separated from the body by a frenzied whack with a shoe or magazine. These little bastards are fast,...

Watching Magnolia for the umpteenth time today. I'm glad I'm no less affected by this time than any other. I mean, I see where it's got problems; there's a stretch of twenty minutes in the middle that really sag, but it's got heart and vision that makes up for all of it.

yes that bob dylan song, i can't even listen to it in a happy mood or else i might cry
anyhow, i really feel you on the father/family/parenting thing. my father just started his second family (oh boy) a few years ago. my sisters (both two years older than me) started their families. i'm surrounded by budding families, and observing them, i find myself saying to myself, "i would never do that." i have no clue as to what i might do though...
anyhow...good morning, writer.

You got me thinking about how women approach my brother and I. I don't know about how his girlfriends have regarded him, but my girlfriend knows that he comes first for me. She's an only child and jokes about envying me for the simplicity of my side of a wedding: my best man is my brother, with my teenage half-brother serving as groomsman. Done.
i have a sister 4 years older than me and we're very close, though not as close as we used to be. we worked together at this residential high school a few years back, and for the first time we shared a social life--friends, activities, partying. she was, hands down, my best friens during that time. but then she left that job and got married and bought a house and had a baby and got a real job and i'm still living a single life. it does put a distance between us. and it does't help that we now live 3000 miles apart.
