Fuck, man. I feel for you. I don't pretend to have the answer (or any answer, for that matter), but have you ever thought of maybe distancing yourself from these friendships? If it bums you out, maybe a little breathing room would help. That way, you're still they're friend, but you don't have to get the daily updates on current jackass boyfriend.
I was in a relationship like that. It just fizzled to the point where she made me feel like her brother. Flushed my self-esteem right down th toilet. Getting out of that and as far away as possible was the best thing.
Two friends of mine (male and female) were in a situation like that. He was totally in love with her. She thought of him as a friend. From her standpoint, she was getting all the intimacy she could ever want--minus the sex and passion. So to balance, she'd run off with these total assholes.
And when it inevitably went sour, she'd run back to my friend and spoon and cry and talk. It tore him up. Since he'd totally fallen for her, he put himself in the "take what he can get" position. Not healthy.
Both moved to different cities. I think the physical distance helped create the emotional distance, and he could let go.
