The drunker I get, the finer I tend to feel. Well, it's a bell curve, really. If I just have one or two beers, I'll wake up early and with a mean-spirited headache. If I really tie one on, then I'm usually fine, with a few complaints from my stomach that are usually gone after some tylenol, a hot shower, and some breakfast. If I get really destroyed - which, mercifully, I haven't done since University, then I really pay for it. But the degree to which I have to imbibe to reach that level is probably more likely to just outright kill me now anyways.

I wouldn't compare Mike Doughty to David Bowie musically - they're worlds apart in terms of what they do (not better, not worse, just different). But in terms of their importance as artists to me, the guys are on roughly equal footing. Seeing Doughty is every bit the epic experience for me that seeing Bowie was (and will be again in April, I trust - whee!). The only other artists I can think of that would have that much impact for me would be David Byrne or Robert Smith.
But you should definitely check some of his music out, both as a member of Soul Coughing and his solo material. I can't say for sure if it'd be your cup of tea, but there's nobody I would recommend more highly to any of my friends. Enjoy!!!
