If I had to make the decision right now it would deffinately be a yes.
Talked to Army and Navy recruiters today.
The Army guys were pretty cool. They were pretty laid back and mostly understood that I just wanted to establish contact and I wasn't interested in listening to any bullshit "be an army on one" type of shit. They wanted to know what I wanted to get out of the experience and understood what I was trying to...

everyone I know personally who has gone into the Navy as enlisted has disliked it.
I might be biased...ok I AM biased...but try the Marines too. They have airplanes and avionics techs too...and there's lots of other fields open. Also...any one recruiter you go to might be cool or might be an ass..don't take it as an indication of the service...a lot of people in that field did it to get out of another field or as an advancement thing. also...get all the info from the recruiter you can, but don't believe anything until it's in writing...and don't sign it till you've read it...and even then understand that it might not be what you think it is.
another reccomendation I have is you might want to check out the Reserves too...you go through all the same training, when it's done you don't have to be military 24/7...but you can augment to full active if you want to.
and remember...if you do change your mind...no matter what shit they lay on you...you can seperate all they up to at least halfway through bootcamp without any real penalty.
if you want any info on the Marines just give me a shout.

I went on an air craft carrier once when I was about ten. The USS Carl Vinson. I don't know who that guy was but they named an awesome ship after him.
Since my last entry I've been thinking about it a lot. I went to a bar and hung with a bunch of freinds and listened to them say all the same things that you wrote in my last journal. I'm even more sure about it now than yesterday.
I know it seems sudden but this is something I've thought about many times over the last...

sounds like a cop-out to me. there are ways of challenging yourself that don't involve handing your mind, body and spirit over to the government. they take even more guts and determination because no one is cracking the whip but you.
hey, you may as well join a cult. it'll just as much ruin your life for the next 3 years and get you out of a rut.

you can always work on a cruise ship. that's kinda similar.
I still wouldn't make such a rash decision like this one. Especially the way the world is right now.

I'm thinking about doing something drastic with my life.
I don't want to do it but I desperatly want to do something--anything--different from whatever it is I'm doing know. I'm tired of being a lazy indie rock kid who's main goal in life is becoming a bartender. It seems like there is no longer any positive forward momentum going on with me and...

life is up and down, it is just how it is. the only way anything can be truely different is if you just mellow and even things out. if you want something to be crazy and drastic, then you need to expect the opposite in return. your rebellion to your mormon upbringings are driving you to do something different, which will in turn bring you right back where you are. to change: just keep doing what you are doing right now and let things mellow out.

don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are just experiencing a hormonal imbalance or something. it will pass.
in the meantime, why don't you get a non-stressful job and go to school part time or something?
anything but the military!

Where you been? I trust you're still jittery and entertaining.

yeah.
I've been writing music for two years now (my first song's birthday is in a week, yay!) and I'm starting to want to have something physical to show for it. I've always loved 7''s and I'd love to have some to give to freinds and stuff.
for any of you who don't know, I write short solo instrumental mandolin peices. (see http://www.modernmando.com )

My goal tommorrow is to right all of you back that wrote in my last journal. sorry it's taken so long.
till then, various thoughts:
--I've decided to undertake a certain project. Still thinking it through. I think it's time. I'll need a lot of advice. I might ask a few of you for help.

Oh come on. It's all out of Love for the H!
The thing about the movie Elephant that is so important is how boring it is.
You sit there the whole movie so thoughoughly enchanted by the mundane glimpse of these kids' lives not because the kids are doing anything interesting but because you know what is about to happen to them.
You know many of them will be slaughtered. You're waiting for the Columbine-Trenchcoat-Mafia-wannabe losers...

I'm afraid that today turned out to be a lot less exciting than I had hoped.
However, on a related note, I do want to point out that Punt & Muller's band Sloe is far better than I had previously thought. I was also nice to see those of you I saw. and to meet those of you I met.

Me too - it would have been cool to see you. Even without the park, the afterparty would have been worth the trip.

Aparently my phone decided that since I'm too poor to provide service to it that it should find a new sugar daddy. I suspect it was seduced by the cabbie that took me home last night but I can't be sure.
hmmmm. you just can't trust those guys. I tipped well too. seriously people--you give an inch and they take a mile!

thats shitty man. i fear losing my phone all the time for the pure and simple fact that i have failed to memorize numbers. all my numbers are in my phone and if i were to lose it i would be beyond fucked. that actually inspires me to take one of these days and backup my phone numbers in my computer or something. anyway, keep your chin up -- at least the cab driver can call that cute girl and she wont go to waste, right?
question: if money, luck or location were no issue, name 3 things that you would do with your life if you decided not to enlist.
