(Vonnegut interviews part 2; stuff from a 1974 interview by Joe Bellamy and John Casey)
Casey: What about your novel Slaughterhouse-Five?
Vonnegut: It was written to treat a disaster. I was present in the greatest massacre in European history, which was the destruction of Dresden by fire-bombing. So I said, Okay, you were there.
The American and British air forces together killed 135,000 people...

Well, I've worried some time about, you know, why write books...why are we teaching people to write books when presidents and senators do not read them, and generals do not read them ...and it's been the university experience that taught me that there is a very good reason, that you catch people before they become generals and presidents and so forth and you poison their...

Yeah I thought the same things. I like to think that I keep conversations going well enough on this site that it wouldn't be an issue, but this week I'm too slammed to respond to everyone's comments, so......yielding to the man.
(The following essay is the afterword to the new edition of Low Life: Lures and Snares of Old New York (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1991) by Luc Sante.)
The idea of writing a book about New York City first entered my head around 1980, when I was a writer more wishfully than in actual fact, spending my nights in clubs and bars and my days...

I'll write a proper entry later... it seems (I dunno if it's some new settings thing or what???) all my entries are returning to the next line after just five words.
twenty seconds later-- okay, that didn't do it. Hmmm. Still not sure what's going on with my comments in other peoples' Journals.

Sorry I haven't been around. It wasn't anything personal against anyone on this site it was more or less a time thing. Also, I don't really have anything important to talk about. Most of what goes on in my life has been exhausted in the first six months of journal enteries.
When I'm not angry things aren't as much fun on here. At least any non-naked girls activity, I'd rather be boring and cherub-like than be full of piss n' vinegar and shootin' the ole mouth off.
take care, Cheech

Forgive me for simply throwing out, for you to read (and I hope you do) another large section of newspaper material but I think this is pretty important stuff. Its from a Washington Post Book World review by John Ferling of Henry Wienceks An Imperfect God. The full review is at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A38737-2003Nov13.html

Grease is one of those films that i remember from my early childhood and has never gone away. I'm just sick to death of it. And people doing 'Greased Lightning' at karaoke makes me wanna injure myself.

2) The Softies and/ or The All-Girl Summer Fun Band

4) Cheech in the shower, rapping/ singing Run DMC's "It's Tricky" while doing a wild ass-shaking dance

Cheech, this is apropos of nothing (a small lie, I was reading your comments to Cherry's journal)- are you on the poplist? I may have given you a lecture about proper use of articles and/or the 3rd person in re: Half Man Half Biscuit once.
Anyway, I choose the AGSFB- the combined history of cuteness in that band can be second to no other.

I shuffled out some pics in My Pics and added new artwork. If you are a newcomer and have not peeped the artwork, please give a look. It is fabulous.
I suggest looking at the "PG" version first, then the "R" one...
(note on the "R" one- turns out there are some uses for the horrible blurry effect when you switch a pic from Bitmap...

Vonnegut, can you read lips? Fuck you!
I love that scene.

Well, that thread actually brightened my gloomy mood... I was continuing with the ironic tone of the passage, you see.
The Outer Banks can be really great in December, if 1) it's over 80 degrees, 2) you don't care about tanning (I don't). The only downside is sunset being at 5... but the lack of traffic is cooler than fugk.

When I couldn't move my limbs, there was a phone call. I was sort of awake, but for the life of me could not force my body to move. It was a very strange experience.
I enjoy when someone says "I called you the other day and we made plans to go somewhere and you never showed" and you calmly explain you do not remember anything of said conversation because they woke you from slumber and were not fully awake.

Nomy Lamm? Is the musical called The Transfused? I haven't heard it..... Haha you're a blur of information!
I guess I'll have to put some Poe on my mix for you...It'll be really out of context, but I can't afford to buy you her whole cd--sorry! She's the sister of the man who wrote the book House of Leaves (next on my reading list) and her album is strongly based on his book.....You should look for that book when you're next in a bookstore, it's strange. I mean as a visual composition....It's like a crazy man's bible....there are passages you have to read in a mirror, etc.

You ever, like, hurt yourself on an inanimate object, and figure the best way to feel better about it is to curse out and punch something?
I nailed my head on my (stone) towel-rack endpiece and, while swearing very loudly, figured a good way to "feel better" would be to punch the wall extremely hard....
Well, my head feels just fine...
....my hand, however, feels...

I just got your package - I'm so excited!!!! I'm listening to your SG mix now, and then I have to wait until after rehearsal to hear my mix and mum. I still have to pull together the awesomest of awesome for you! I really like the sounds on this cd--my speakers have never made these noises before. But finding equally good music for you, when I only brought 12 od my 250 million cds to school with me this semester is going to be challenging!
I think you have to wait until I record my musical!

I don't know the *exact* differences between mice and rats except that I know rats are bigger than mice, and if you put them both together the rat will kill the mouse or hamster or whatever rodent you put in with it that isn't a rat.
