Aries told me that you might kow of some good non-mainstream and high fashion hair websites. I can't find any good ones. Maybe since you live alot closer to the start of trends, you will know where I can find some?
Thanks

Although the version above with the red vest is considered the "original" Swedish National Costume dating to 1900, the blue and yellow (or as we say in Ann Arbor, maize and blue) is what is commonly considered as the national costume for purposes of tourists as it incorporates the Swedish flag colors:
The history of FOLKDRKT, English.
Much of what is today considered "typically Swedish" in fact were borrowings of the middle class intellectuals like Carl and Karin Larsson who imitated folk traditions and designs from Dalarna particularly. Even though a lot of their ideas came where they were living on the Left Bank in Paris LOL. Nordiska Museet had a very interesting show on the Larsson's when I was there in about 1997.

I do recommend the book Swedes as Others See Them (not the Jean Phillips-Martinsson book of the same name). This is however not how Swedes see themselves so be careful about mentioning the very funny stories in this book unless you want people to get offended.
In general, think Japan. Take shoes off when entering house. Being invited to someone's home is a big honor, bring flowers for the host/ess. Eat lots of fish. Get used to people almost never saying "no" or "I'm sorry". Don't expect people to be friendly or even to make casual conversation unless it is midsummers or they are drunk or at a party. Don't tell people you love them unless you mean it as a lifetime commitment. My friend A_____ has been living with a man for years and says they have never once said this thing and further, what difference would it make. Love has pretty much nothing to do with sex and sex, nothing to do with morality or politics.
Do whatever you can to learn Swedish... I was lazy and learned to understand it enough to get by but always could get away with answering in English (most people have at least six years of English or American in school (considered to be different languages)), Speaking in a foreign language makes all but the most educated people very uptight. Class distinctions in Sweden are mostly shown by how you speak (and in what dialect) and this bleeds over to how well you speak foreign languages. I remember the Prefekt of my school being mortified because she couldn't converse with a visting Danish scholar in Danish... her excellent Swedish, English, German, and French notwithstanding. So unless people speak perfect English or American they generally won't want to have to do it in front of other Swedes particularly.
The country isn't actually called Sweden, its Sverige (Svere-YA) and the language is Svensk.
I have lots more practical advice, like how to eat a Semla so it doesn't explode in your face, also places to go and things to do... let me know if you think its interesting.
To the Swedes reading this, I know that living there for a year and visiting from time to time doesn't make me an expert, so please do correct me where necessary. Tack s mycket.

today's top bargain:
bought a book called The Kommandent's Mistress at one of those sellout bookshops on my way to visit Ross and Kate at work. They seem busy, and the irony is I'd sent my resume to head of the company in the states months before Ross appeared in our lives...
Then went by my postbox to see what has been bought for me...

just got back from brighton...was a very proud weekend.
went to the park and hung out at the popstarz tent as that was the only place there was any semblance of halfway decent music. chilled with bouquet and metalchick. spent sunday on the beach tanning with a huge group of ppl - london gym posse and brighton gang...then fucked off to a massive street party...

News flash!
I just started a new group for salon professionals - The Suicide Salon!
Its a place where we can bounce ideas off of each other, keep on top of trends and technique, and promote our favourite events!
It's a private club (gotta keep our "trade secrets" secret, ya know?
) so just join on up and I'll approve you!

Hey y'all. How was the belly dancing on saturday?
so evidently i've fucked up someone's life by what i have written on my journal about them...well, if this person had been straight forward with me then maybe that wouldn't have happenend...in fact, i still don't really understand who i've dropped them in it with and/or why...par for the course really - guess i'm just destined to be the dirty secret in everyone's lives rather...

i think the marks are from piers, my gay boy version of hibiscus. he used to stay at my house with salena saliva the poet. thats who me and the flatmate went to see at the atlantic bar after ellie's...
