The rum bottle was cracked open tonight for the first Mojitos of the season- they require fresh mint and since I now have a few sprigs it only seemed appropriate.

Unfortunately, they didn't seem to bring the joy I normally get from them. I seem to be at a crossroads of some sort, but I don't know what it is...

Like Stevie Winwood sang, "Sometimes...

Tired. Really tired this week. Work's on overdrive and the allergies have been kicking my ass. I need a week at the beach.

SO... with summer just around the corner, here's some questions for all ya'll-

1-Your favorite beach and why?

2- Board shorts, Bikini, Speedo or Birthday Suit?

3- Favorite beach cocktail?

4- Surfboard, Boogie Board, or the

(1)The back side of Pathfinder Reservoir, smack in the middle of Wyoming, ten miles of the most beautiful fine white sand beach you will ever see. isolated, deserted, remote, and not a house/car/or person to be seen.
(2)Boardshorts
(3)Longnecks under ice bedded in a cooler.
(4) Sweet little 10 ft sailboat with room for two.
(5) I'll be fishing when I'm on the beach wink

Home, sweet home. Nothing better than coming back to your own place after 4 days of planes, trains, hotel rooms and the dullest frickin' meetings you can imagine. Why is it nearly everyone in corporate America is so damn boring?

I had a 3-legged trip DC-Chicago-Orlando-DC. It was my lucky day on the first two legs. I was "specially selected for secondary screening". I really...

What an absolutely gorgeous day it was. Finally broke 80 and finally feels like Spring. Of course, that meant a few hours diggin in the dirt getting the garden ready. Got the Spinach and 3 types of lettuce in. We'll need a couple more weeks of decent weather before tomatoes, peppers, cukes and zucchini can go.

Its not a big patch of dirt, but its...

I suppose I should update the journal here...I meant to write something after Dubya's press conference the other night, but never got to it and it seems like ancient history at this point so I won't go there.

Got the taxes done and out the door on the 14th. Ouch. We got spanked bad this year. Fortunately, the reserves were there to render unto Caesar......

The best money I ever spent, went in roads, buildings, and social welfare, the worst to the military and corporate welfare.

Remember regime change starts at home. surreal

Heh. Yeah, I read about how Bush planned to go to war with Iraq in November of 2001. Just beautiful. puke

Maybe I'm weird, but I prefer the "rougher" music to the more "polished" modern sounds. Robert Johnson, Blind Willie, Son House... I just love it.

Hope you had fun with the nice weather - it was hot here, too, and is supposed to stay that way all week. Too bad I'll be writing term papers the whole time. frown

My son and I put in a 16+ mile backpacking loop in the Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia. An amazing place. Up on a high plateau, it looks more like the north woods than Appalachia. We had a long hike in along a fabulous creek valley. Snow still on the ground in a lot of places. Gorgeous weather, but the streams were very high...a...

Below is my new desktop picture on my computer. Anytime I start feeling old and begin whining about it I will look at this. This is Ken Bradshaw, who is featured in the Billabong Odyssey DVD that just came out. This shot was taken on "Big Wednesday" in January 1998 off of Maui. The wave is over 80 ft. high. Ken Bradshaw is 49 years...

So tonight was Battle of the Bands night at the high school. 15 bands. 3 songs each. Just got back from the boy's set. Being 9th graders, they were first up. What he lacks in vocal range, he works really hard to make up for with emotion. Here's the set list.

-Sweet Home Alabama
-Knockin' on Heaven's Door
-Simple Man

Yes, they have a Lynyrd...

Back to politics. So the Bush-leaguers caved on Condi testifying. Pretty amazing actually. I'm thinking this might be the Tipping Point...

They pulled out all the stops and tried their damnedest to smear Clarke and paint him as a partisan opportunist, but their sledge-hammer-subtle, ham-handed attack politics didn't work this time. No one bought it. Not even the folks on their side of the aisle....

I vote either Green Party or Natural Law party and encourage my friends, family, and associates to do the same. Occasionally, I vote for a local independant quack. Tough to find in NW Ohio, though.

Hopefully, that ice queen opens up a hellacious can of worms.

Spring is definately here and along with it a variety of new sensations including the following:

-Allergies. I never had them in Atlanta, but since moving to DC, I've been suffering.
-Body odor. The hordes of tourists have only just begun. The evening Metro ride home becomes a whole new olfactory adventure when its packed with folks who have been walking around town all day....

Thanks for the yummy words! I am so excited about this year. Nature and hiking and camping and all. *sigh* I love it so. I think the boy will teach me how to backpack. Must purchase a tent though, because I have this thing about snakes... *shiver*

How was your weekend?

I'm reading this book called Perfectly Legal by David Cay Johnston- reporter for the NY Times. He writes about taxes. Yes (yawn, yikes, etc.) that's his beat and he's very good at it- a Pulitzer Prize winner in fact. Anyway, the fact is we are all getting royally screwed. Here's a nice statistic (one of many):

For every $1 that each taxpayer in the bottom...
