Free at last. OTC drug free, that is. More or less. No antihistamines or decongestants or cough suppressants at least. Just a couple of Tylenol to send this plague on its merry way. Ah, its nice to have a reasonably clear head again.
Cold drugs and 90 degree weather do not mix well, by the way. Not so bad when its winter and all you...

Bleeech. The plague caught up with me yesterday. Loaded up on Claritin, sudafed and tylenol. All sweaty and shaky. Of course that could be due to the 90 degree weather too. I have to make the party tonight though. Duty calls. Looks like a no alcohol event though. Just as well.
Stay well this weekend.

Fighting off the plague of a cold that has infected my wife and son. So far so good. The immune defenses are holding their own. I might beat this one w/o feeling too miserable, which would be a good thing. A dear friend turns 40 this weekend and much drinking and dancing is in order!!!

OK, after this, I promise to leave the Cicada thing alone. But this headline was too damn funny-
Man Becomes Ill After Gorging on Cicadas
May the crunch of many bugs bring joy under your feet. Have a great week!

first of all, make sure he/she is legit - you can find board certified acupuncturists here. not that imposters are much of an issue, but you never know. beyond that i recommend finding someone who has been practicing at least 5 years, and preferably even longer. tendonitis can be very well treated with acupuncture. good luck...

My place hasn't got a porch, either. I make do with a fire-escape.

They're heeeere......
The cicadas are beginning to emerge in force now. Squashed ones are littering the streets, especially around street lights. The little alien shells are attached to everything...Below's one emerging from his (her?) shell. After 17 years underground, he's got 6 weeks to mate and spawn and then die. Interesting life. Going out in a blaze of orgasmic glory. I would have more pics,...

Amazing little creatures. I am fascinated by those big, red eyes. (Nice yard. Like being in the tropics!)

Waiting for the Cicadas....
The 17 year brood is hatching here in the east. There are a few out and about so far, but nothing near the 1 million per acre that they are predicting for older neighborhoods like mine. If that many 2 inch bugs emerge from my yard that will be a sight to see! Pictures to follow...

Big Fish is a splendid little movie. Just finished viewing it with my little guy. I'll need to watch it again to pick up on all the nuances. Made me think alot about my Dad. He was a major BSer too. He would tell me "Son, you can't con a con-artist." That was a challenge, if there ever was one!

Enjoy it as long as you can before some money grubbing developer buys and renovates and turns it into a sterile, overpriced yuppie playground.
There's already some horrid towering condo complex at the end of the avenue. *shudder*
Big Fish, eh? Hmm. I'm pondering which theatre movie to see tomorrow: Eternal Sunshine, The Corporation or Kill Bill 2. Any input would be appreciated!

Centering. When things get crazy in work or at home or in life in general, it helps to remember to center. My reference points for personal centering have always come from the martial arts, but the applications are far ranging. I just have to remember to find it, especially when things get chaotic. Fortunately, today, I remembered. And even after 12 hours of frenzy at...

Costello and balance......seems like a perfect match.....perhaps early to bed tonight and some yoga in the morning-have a great weekend
I want a job as a beach bum or a ski instructor or a canoe guide or something... no phone calls, no e-mail, no TERMINALLY DULL meetings. So far this week seems like it has been one continuous conference call/meeting and it has no end in sight through tomorrow and Thursday. By Friday I will be total toast and then I have to turn around...

Yeah, life can at times feel like nothin' but an endless series of "have-to's." Extremely difficult to get out of that particular rut (as I am sure you are aware).
Things that keep me sane: my books, my music, and my cat. (And the occasional stiff drink, of course.)
Oh yeah, and the growing possibility that Bush will lose the next election!
Hang in there, guy!!

I guess it would be a fear of missing out on some essential experience before exiting from this mortal plane. Not sure what that experience is, or the level of enlightenment that would come with it (or not), but I seem to keep chasing it at some level.
I'm ALWAYS certain there's something I'm missing out on, always restless. I've got to learn to stop and enjoy the moments as they come and to stop thinking about the moments which follow, I guess.

I have a new film for my list of favorites and a new crush.
We finally got around to watching Frida last night. An intoxicating, exquisite film. Salma Hayek puts an incredible passion into her portrayal of Frida Kahlo.
And...the scene where she outdrinks Alfred Molina and Antonio Banderas to win a dance with Ashley Judd, is by far the sexiest, most intoxicating dance I...

i love frida!

A kilted Scotsman was walking down a country path after finishing off a large amount of whisky at a local pub. He felt quite sleepy and decided to nap against a tree.
As he slept, two female tourists heard his loud snoring. When they found him, one said, "I've always wondered what a Scotsman wears under his kilt."
She boldly walked over to the sleeper, raised his kilt, and saw that he wore nothing at all. Her friend said, "Well, the mystery is solved! Let's thank him for sharing!"
She took off her pretty blue hair ribbon and gently tied it around the Scotsman's endowment. A while later, the Scotsman was awakened by the call of nature. He raised his kilt and was bewildered at the sight of the neatly tied blue ribbon. He stared for a minute, then said, "I don't know where y'been laddie... but it's nice ta see you won firrrst prrrize!"
YOU POSTED THIS FOR SURFBETTY, WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW I LISTEN TO DR. DEMENTO TOO!
Yes, I understand all too well the desire to wander -- to just pick up and GO. With each new, media-fueled "drama", leaving the country becomes a more and more appealing option. (My question is, as an American, would anyone have me? )
I LOVE Mr. Rogers, rest his soul. Guess its the sneaker wearing nerd in me.
