So, I took the elder son along with his two cousins and a friend (yes, 4 teenage boys- and you question my sanity?) to see the LIVE concert last night. They were quite good, though as one might expect, they came off as a bit jaded. The dire predictions of 2-4 inches of rain from the remnents of Charley never materialized, so the outdoor venue...

Rain. The past two afternoons have been drenchers. Hailed some yesterday. Maybe a couple of inches today-tomorrow. Looks like we will get some of the dregs of Bonnie and then Charley as well. Feels like living in a terrarium. I think I need to go back to New Mexico. Wish I was going to Burning Man. whatever ARRR!!! surreal

He thinks that Anti-Christ business is so pathetic, He told me they just can't get it through their simple little minds that there doesn't have to be an opposite to everything.

Dust off the Basketball Diaries. I had mine stored away in the cave as well. Busted that bad unit out and got all kinds of inspired. It had been awhile since I've been inspired to do anything creative, so it was a plus. It would probably be cheaper than narcotics...which is a plus.

I think I'm going to try some of this hiking business before I lose the summer. It's seems like an interesting form of exercise. Plus, the lack of everyday people seems cool, too.

So. I was having a conversation with a colleague of mine at the office the other day. He was noting how some children relatives of his partner's were supposed to come visit from rural Illinois. But their parents were totally freaked and worried about them coming to DC. Worried about terrorism. The latest code orange was probably going to send them over the edge and...

Yeah, yeah, people are just so afraid, they live their lives in a state or avoidance.
Yep the big citylots o crazies
I lived in NYC and upon moving my mom said be careful of those people.
I said, Mom, I am those people.
So what does it take to get an image posted in my journal around here?

I agree-- It is if the terrorists have already defeated us if we live in fear everyday....and not to mention that more people are killed on our highways in a month then through every terror attack we have seen....My mom almost did not fly out here to philly for the same reason.....but we talked her into it...and she was like: "if it is my time to die...at least I dided coming to see my family......so amen....

Dog Days. Indeed they are upon us. Makes me feel as if I was back home in the South with the 90/90s of August- 90 degrees and 90 % humidity. I surrounds you. It envelopes you. It sucks the breath out of you when you step outside.

Numerous economic treatises have linked the economic rise of the the Southern US with the widespread adaptation of...

Double-dosed tonight. My head is reeling.

First, I finally went and saw Farenheit 9/11. Then Kerry's acceptance speech.

All I want to know is this. How can Bush, ever, ever look a mother who has lost her son or daughter in his Iraq cluster-fuck in the eye? He can't and won't.

John Kerry knows the cost of war. He had a bunch of guys on...

For the Humbling Moments category:

I spent 3 hours at the emergency room Monday night. Some kind of unidentified allergic reaction. It started Sunday while I was sleeping. I woke up a few times during the night itching in a lot of places. I took some Benadryl in the morning and went to work.

By the time I got home (and the Benadryl had worn...

Consume less. Share more.

That was the bumper sticker I saw on the wall at the Co-op the other day. I had already been formulating some thinking along those lines before I saw it. It was kind of kharmic to have it appear before my eyes like that.

My version goes like this: Consume less. Create more.

I was thinking about what it was like...

Soundtracks of recent note:

Heading home on the Metro the other night, there was a guy outside the enterance- he's a regular Dupont Circle area fixture- older black dude with grey dreds- blowin' Stan Getz's Girl from Ipanema. I don't think there's been a cooler sax solo ever blown and this guy rendered it in stellar fashion. Made me smile for a long time....

Yeah, "heat wimps." Bitch, bitch, bitch. And here I was thinking of taking a trip to Arches National Monument. OH, SURE. Guess I'll just have to experience it vicariously through Edward Abbey. (Currently reading Desert Solitaire. Amazing!)

I happen to adore the Stones' Street Fightin' Man! In fact, I think they should play it at the opening of the Democratic National Convention. Get those boys fired up and ready to rumble! biggrin

Gorgeous day today. It was 48 degrees this morning. Bright, sunny, crisp blue first day of Autumns weather. Time to break out the pack and head for the hills for some FALL camping. This is my favorite time of year to be on the trail. Hopefully soon!

Two other items of note-

1) Test drove a mountain bike this weekend. I don't ride one now-...

One of the most delicious things about summer and one of the great pleasures in life has to be a vine ripe tomato just picked from your own garden.

They've been coming in by the handfuls since I got back from vacation.

Cooked some up tonight with fresh basil, oregano, parsley and some pasta with parmagiana and mozzarella... with a decent Chianti on the side....man......
