Authenticity.
It's a word that gets thrown around alot by critics, etc. When is an artist authentic? Hell, I don't know how to describe it, but I know it when I see it.
Went to see Bonnie Raitt last Tuesday night. There's a whole lotta authenticity in her. Soul and wit and such a beautiful voice and a red head to boot..

I will still see the Johnny Cash movie. Why I haven't yet is complicated. Kids play a role.
Authenticity. That's a trait possessed by my children. I hope they keep it, but the world can be cruel.

There is, all things considered, way beyond a helluva lot for which to be thankful. No political rants or self remorse here today. I am thankful. Period.

Congratulations BV!!! I've been diving since '77, and it's my 2d favorite thing to do in the world, after motorcycling. And yes, warm water rules... You'll have to join the Scuba Diving group now!
Heard the Dalai Lama this afternoon at a public speech here in DC. What a gentle soul, in spite of all the hardship he and his country have endured. Would that I could ever be so humble and at peace. The rest of the weekend was spent in the woods...gorgeous...perfect camping weather.

- Ditto on the weather, half way through November 60 F today- cowabunga!
- The Dalai Lama is on my list too.

What a lovely experience!

'sWhile we ponder the eventual fallout and outcome of the indictment of Scooter, here are some more sobering facts to ponder. While you were getting shafted for $3.00 gas this Fall, the big Oil boys were sucking down record profits. Here they are, with their 3rd quarter profit results:
Exxon Mobil, $9.9 billion, up 75%
Shell, 9.4 billion, up 67 %
BP, 4.4 billion, up...

UPDATE, 10/28:
While I am hoping for at least an indictment of Scooter Libby and even better Karl Rove as my Birthday present,
the withdrawal of the Miers nomination has been beyond hilarious to behold. The Reds are feeding on themselves. How lovely a sight is that? Now that you KNOW the lunatics are running the asylum, what are YOU going to do about it?...

Today...was...absolutely...stunning.
Gorgeous, delicious, cool, clear sunny day.
It rained last night for the first time in, oh, 4 weeks. Cleaned everything out and it was all shiny and new this morning. Perfect. Life is good. Peace ya'll.

Well, the Equinox has come and past and I am in a funk. This will be a long entry, so bear with me. Or not. If you get bored, thats fine.
The state of funk is due, in no small part, to the fact that I have now been in DC for 5 years. Seems like an eternity in some respects and a heartbeat in...

Yeah, out in front of the pick-up van!!
The weather the past few days, days since Katrina, has been indescribably wonderful. Maybe she felt guilty for all the havoc she wreaked, but wowevery day has been sunny, blue and upper 70s, low 80s, and nice and cool at nite. I have nothing to say about Lady K that hasnt already been said and shown in utterly unnerving images. May the good folks down...

Well, if you were in SF you would.
Yes, we Americans ARE rather slow on the uptake, aren't we? Maybe this coming year we can replace the national No-Doze with some intellectual pep-pills! Keep hopin'!
Happy Holidays, BV! Hang in there!
