Happy Father's Day to all you Dads past, present and future. My old man taught me a lot. He overcame a ton of health-related adversity and a shitty upbringing to make family the most important thing in his life. At the age he is in this photo (not sure exactly- but in his 20s in the mid 1950s) he looks so young. His life is...

Indeed.

Pity your cherry blossoms didn't stick around long. (We've been pretty fortunate out here, in that ours have hung in there much longer than expected, despite all the rainfall.)

I guess that's why it's such a perfect symbol of the impermanence of beauty...and of life itself.

The NY subway is a great equalizer and humanizer. I am always humbled and amazed when I visit and experience the rich fabric of life riding the A Train or any other line. We are all the same. Just another rider making our way to our destination. ARRR!!!biggrin

"Peeps Mourn Their Peeps"! Tee-hee! Pure genius! biggrin

As always, I am completely blown away by the time and creativity put into these. So fun. Thanks for sharing!

Yup, I.R.S. was truly a brilliant label. Rivaled only by Rough Trade and Stiff, in my humble opinion. (I have great affection for Sub Pop and SST, but the quality of their output has been a bit spottier, over the years.) Suburban Lawns and the Method Actors definitely share the same kooky, hip aesthetic, for sure. smile

PS: Have the cherry trees blossomed out there yet? Ours appeared way early this year.

If you are in DC, or if this play comes to your town- Go.See.It.
Just got back from today's matinee - one of the most powerful stage performances I have seen in a while. Simply excellent!

Okay, the title of the play alone has me sold. biggrin Nice to know that theater that pushes the envelope still exists.

Yup, seeing Bowie one day is definitely on my musical bucket list. I should probably start filling the piggy bank now, however, as I'm certain the tickets are going to be ludicrously expensive.

I've become much more of a theater buff since my younger son became part of the "Tech" stage production crew in high school. His senior year he was Lighting Director and won a Washington area "Cappie" award - a student peer-based critical review with over 50 participating high school drama programs- for his work on the production of "Side Show." He's moved past that now and my wife and I have "graduated" to shows beyond the occasional musical or Kennedy Center play to some of the newer (and better) theaters here in DC. The Studio Theater is a fantastic space, seating about 200 for the main stage. We were lucky enough to be first row for this show and the experience was amazing.
Hope you are well. We dodged a mythical blizzard here today. ARRR!!!ARRR!!!biggrin

Yesterday I did something new. For the first time, I participated in a Polar Bear swim.
The MSP Polar Bear Plunge raised $s for Special Olympics. The air temp was 33 degrees, and time spent in the water was short, but it was a blast and raised lots of money for a good cause. ARRR!!!ARRR!!!biggrin

Never an easy game for my Falcons. They always seem to let the other team back in it. But today's coronary finish left them on top for a change. Rise Up, Atlanta! ARRR!!!ARRR!!!biggrin

I'll be rooting for the 49ers on Sunday. (Born and partly raised in the Bay Area, so it's kinda in my DNA.) Should be an exciting game. smile

Hope all is well with you and your family.

budoviking:
We are well, thanks for asking. I hope the same for you!
Well, except for oldest son's recent encounter with the controlled substance statues of the not so enlightened state of North Carolina. frown

I actually like the 49ers a lot. They play excellent ball and Kaepernick is nothing short of amazing. It would also be great to see a brother v. brother coaching battle in the Superbowl. So, anyone EXCEPT New England is a decent result for me. :-)ARRR!!!ARRR!!!
