umm, i believe that in the foriegn film category the country of origin selects snd submits the piece. this year Spain submitted, oh hold on let me find it...damn can't find it right now( been rearranging my room, it's somewhere..). guess they can't submit almodovar's films everytime, which, honestly , they would have to do since he's been on such a winning streak.
but, yeah , this year's picks are a surprisingly thoughtful lot. i hope scorscese wins not only for 'gangs...' but for the 30 years of extraordinary films he's givien us. this guy was beat by kevin fuckin costner and robert redford ( in regards to goodfellas and raging bull, respectively). which is a freakin' injustice but the Oscars were created as a PROMOTIONAL tool for the industry way back in the day and still are which is why the picks so often lean towards commercial rather tha n just artistic success.
but i look forward to watching this year after not givin a flip last year. hell, don't even remember who won last year!

The Oscars make me happy.. my parents always throw a party in LA and I go and hang out with Adult People and have good snack-like foods that everyone makes... it's awesome. And we all just hang out and laugh and drink and watch the oscars and play ballots and stuff... it's awesome.
