Since the 1970s very few comic book characters have been able to stand the test of time. Certainly Mike Mignolas Hellboy Mike Mignolas Hellboy and Paul Chadwicks Concrete are cases which prove the rule (though I am sure to get a few emails telling me about others). One of the best examples is Madman created by Mike Allred. In the first Madman miniseries back...

I saw a few trades at a comic shop back home. I really wanted to buy them, but decided not to. I regret that. I had forgotten the name until now. X-Statix! yes smile

Stan Lee was recently named the 26th most influential American by Atlantic Monthly, but if it was up to me I would have put him quite a bit higher. Lee is, of course, best known as the co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and dozens more, though controversy has always swirled around how big his real contributions might have been. But first and foremost Lee...

Busdriver is a unique rapper much in the vein of ultra-talented rappers like RJD2 and Blueprint. His previous albums were low budget affairs that highlighted Busdrivers freestyle talent. But for his new album, Roadkill Overcoat, Busdriver wanted a cleaner more produced sound and thats why he recruited producers DJ Nobody, Boom Bip and Bianca Casady of CocoRosie to help him out.

Buy Roadkill Overcoat...

Even though Bryan Lee OMalley has been creating the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels for three years, I really only became aware of the book last year when a SuicideGirl emailed me how excited she was that Edgar Wright was going to adapt it. I had interviewed Wright for the US release of Shaun of the Dead and I was a big fan. I figured it...

Right after I read 3 I was like, "ooh, when's 4 coming out??" Then I looked at the copyright dates and noticed that they average one book a year blackeyed

I'm excited at the prospect of the movie going beyond what's written too, kind of a glimpse into where the comic's heading. Plus I've really enjoyed all the Edgar Wright stuff I've seen so far.

With the release of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantinos Grindhouse feature this year, the term grindhouse will be bandied about, mostly by people who dont know what the hell it means. Few true American grindhouse legends are still around today and certainly one of the leading forces in their creation and DVD releases is William Lustig. I got a chance to talk with Lustig, the...

Maniac fucking rocks. One of the best stalk-n-slash flicks EVER created. Period. I'd put it up against any giallo any day of the week. I've watched it numerous times over the years and have loaned it to similarly gore-loving friends. And yes, that shotgun-blast to the head (Savini's head, no less) is one of the most amazing effects ever. I would have loved to have seen this in an actual 42nd street grindhouse theater when it was first released.
Incidentally, a number of years back I ran into William Lustig himself at Mondo Video in L.A. and he was kind enough to stop and chat with me for a few minutes. A really friendly, outgoing guy.

Since the two shows starring Bob Saget, Full House and Americas Funniest Home Videos, ended nearly ten years ago it has been a long hard road to make America realize that he is one of the sickest and funniest comedians around today. Certainly directing the cult classic Dirty Work and his brief appearance in Half Baked as the cocksucking cocaine addict helped that cause....

After years of interviewing Saw II and Saw III director Darren Lynn Bousman, finally we get to do it for SuicideGirls. I have been a fan of all the Saw films since I saw the first one in preparation for my interview with co-writer/director James Wan. I had no inkling that this gory little horror flick would change the face of American horror and...

When you have to produce as much work as I do, it is inevitable that some things will fall through the cracks. Thats what happened after I got to interview Judy Greer for the DVD of The Great New Wonderful. The Great New Wonderful is a well acted dramatic film about how 9/11 has affected a number of different sets of people. Greer plays Allison...

One might expect Bob Burden to have a giant orange head and flippers on his feet. But unlike his creation, the Flaming Carrot, Burden has a college education, isnt completely insane but he may have read almost as many comic books. Burden first created Flaming Carrot back in 1979 as a one off character but soon the Carrot had inserted himself into Burdens mind. Since...

At this point the word "Amazon" has lost its power under the crushing weight of discounted books, cheap DVDs, and all the other crap sold online, but there's a woman out there who's taking the name back: Amazon of Extreme Chickfights.

Extreme Chickfights is an independent DVD series that collects ultimate fighting-type battles between some very burly women. Still very much an underground phenomenon,...
