HURRICANE PARTY CANCELED
Well, Charley fizzled out and passed on by before blowing all of Baltimore... Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Last year during Isabel I was living in Annapolis and working at a yacht brokerage there. It was full-bore chaos getting all the boats safely tied up and ready to ride out the storm. The Chart House (where we dock out boats) was so badly damaged by Isabel that they only recently re-opened. From many years experience of being threatened by hurricanes, the one thing I know about them is that by the time you know for sure it is going to be bad, it is too late to prepare, so I keep an eye on the tropical weather and sound the alarm early.
Thankfully the information about the storm losing steam developed before I went so far as to tape up windows and such at home and the property I am working on where WE JUST INSTALLED HUGE PICTURE WINDOWS. WHEW! I sure am glad that they didn't get blown in!!!
Ah, hurricane parties... I miss 'em. My family is from the sister cites of Mobile, Alabama (also known as LA--Lower Alabama)and New Orleans, Louisiana, and yes o2bnlove, it is true, they sure can throw some fine huricane parties down there, y'all. The liquor stores very often get cleaned out before the grocery stores. The last one I did was probably ten years ago though. I was living in my parent's place on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay when one blew up, so I evac'd to a friend's house in Mobile that stood on higher ground. A few other friends who lived nearby hung out with us too. We taped up the windows and watched the television and got drunk while my family called me about every 30 minutes to try to talk me into heading further inland. Pshaw. That one was no big deal.
I do have family who evac'd from their place on a barrier island near Tampa, and I hope that their house is still there.
Well, enough worrying about Charley and reminiscing about hurricanes past. Time to go take care of the errands I put off to cope with the SOB...
