Why does the volcano have to erupt after i leave Iceland??

Yeah, we set out to drive to that glacier (the third largest in the world i believe) early in our trip.
I drove through the worst windstorm in 20 years that night, i was told. I saw a semi trailer blown over right before the worst of it. Sheets of sand were blowing over the car. F woke up, freaked out, and convinced me to stop at a guesthouse in Vic. The winds were amazing and loud that night. The next morning i was told 40 cars in Vic lost their windows in the storm. Turns out that was probably the biggest danger i was facing driving the night before.
The weather was still bad that morning (but much better) so we waited until noon to drive the rest of the way to the national park and glacial lagoon (south of the glacier). I'd say we got 96% of the way or more before we ran into a bridge that was roped off. I got out of the car to check it out and could not stand up due to the wind. It was actually pretty fun. I though seriously about running the bridge anyway (it was tiny) but F would have nothing to do with it. I was told later that another bridge further along might have been worse off.
Anyway, i was really, really bummed about not making to the national park at the foot of the glacier and especially the glacial lagoon which looked amazing from the pictures. But it was an adventure
I'll add this: The next morning i was talking to the lady from the guesthouse. I told her about the blown-over semi trailer i passed on before we stopped.
"When you saw the trailer blown over, what exactly were you thinking?"
Ha! For some reason i love that.
Yes, it was still there the next day.
