he left a family and a home
great friends and a life
because something big came up
and it was just his turn to go

i know not everyone agrees
with our boss and his policies
and sometimes even they get down
when their working on christmas eve

but dont try and look behind their eyes
you may not like what you see
and for all the things that they've had to do
for your freedom their the veterans

do not get me wrong
cause even though they are strong
sometimes their hearts break
but they just got to carry on

they've lost loved ones and friends
seen days with no end
purple hearts hollow eyes
and thats just where it starts

well their a father their a son
their an uncle their a mother or cousin
they went and fought your war
they said freedom is worth dying for
so if you do or don't support
they don't mind they'll give their life

but dont try and look behind their eyes
you may not like what you see
and for all the things that they've had to do
for your freedom their the veterans
