You should go to Bavaria, and visit the castle Neuschwanstein, built in about 1870, by King Ludwig II. It's one of several he had built, and they are all wildly beautiful, sitting atop mountain peaks. They were, not surprisingly, horrendously expensive, and it was said, that the king had planned, and financed gangs of the 'best' criminals in Europe to rob banks and art galleries to finance the building of these useless, but beautiful behemoths. I have no idea how true this was, but Ludwig was believed by many, to be insane, so who knows? In Romania, check out Vlad Dracul's Palace, at Tigoriste. The dwelling place of 'Vlad The Impaler' [hobby: nailing hats on to the heads of foreign dignitaries], and basis of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' [I prefer 'Jewel Of The Seven Stars', actually].
