I dig the new hair. You look even more lovely now (if that's possible) than you did before...I had dreads for three days and then cut them off. I kind of miss them in some weird way. Hmm. Bye.

i love wild water buffalo. i love to think about them. when i think of them peacefully grazing and laying in mud i feel so calm and happy. they are quiet and tolerant. there are less than 1,000 and maybe as few as 400 left in the world. they are endangered because they're so tolerant and fearless that they just lay in the mud sleeping...

pr0ject605:
Yeah, they are a pretty impressive creature. It's such a damn shame tho that it's not common knowledge what's going on with them. Thanks for reminding me tho, so now I can add that to my list of things that I need to show more support for.

there is a sort of ex at my house right now. actually it's so much more complicated than that. i'm feeling totally uncomfortable though. but it would seem rude if i ran off. but things are so fucked that seeming rude couldn't fuck them any harder.

it sounds like we are going through similiar phases right now.
dont you HATE it when someone asks you/tell you "why arent you smiling, you should smile?"
why is it so hard for people to swallow the idea that we are not happy 100% of the time, and even if
we were we all have different ways of showing it. im so sick of those people that go out
on the weekends and smile and act all cheery and sickly sweet. i hate the fakeness to it all.
so if people call me a bitch for it..fuck them. i guess i am.

do what you have to do. and be who you have to be to get through life right now.

hope your situations brighten soon.

they let me out of work early. it kind of helped assuage the fact that they fired my fave coworker. she was too cool for them to handle.

the roomates are cleaning, which i think is actually a relaxing sunday afternoon activity for them. i feel guilty by default when people clean around me and i'm just needing some time alone so i'm downstairs in...

i wish that when they had marathons, they would show older seasons, though. because i miss real world london, dammit.

and to think that there are kids out there who never even saw the first real world new york. norm! heather b! the sexual tension between eric and that southern chick! oh poor kids.

just saw a bunch of bands at cafe du nord. i love that venue so much. it's so cute how everyone always sits down on the floor in front of the stage. i saw vetiver and devendra banhart and this cool sorta ragtime band whose name i can't recall. seeing music inspires me to be more artful in my life.

I just noticed you listing Steve Reich as well. Strange, he gave me a good review last year on one of my ambient pieces and as it turned out he's friends with a guy I used to work with years ago named Loren Norell...you might want to check him out. He does more Indonesian type music like Balinese Gamelan.

This Cafe Du Nord, is that here in Los Angeles or up in San Francisco? I need to get out more and would like to know of different places that have good music... I need the inspiration!

LE- Do you mind if I ask if you are staff at SG? If so -- cool enough. If not, I apparently mistook your criticism as a warning from management. Do me afavor and let me know which it was.

No problem either way -- I just like to know who I'm dealing with.

heya. i'm trying to get a credit card so i can pay for school in the fall. i'd like it to have at least a $2000 limit if that is possible. i applied for one and got rejected because i forgot to pay a phone bill in 1999. does anybody have any advice for the best way to get a good credit card if you...

Hey there. Thanks a bunch for your help. I love your journal too.
johnny_fantastic:
fixing credit: sometimes it is simply a matter of writing the credit bureau and explaining that the late bill probablem was not your fault - come up with some excuse - but as long as it was eventually paid, you can usually convince the credit places to remove it from your history (as long as its not something like a car repossesion or a bankrupcy). The problem is that there are 3 main credit bureaus so you might have to send letters to all three to be totally clean (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion).

Why do I know this? I am having to do the same with an unpaid Macy's bill due to change of address... Uhg!

how often does the past seem more tantalizing than the present? in a serious way - not about nostalgia. but a true and correct memory, with all bad and good things, seeming so much better than what is happening now? is it just that remembering something is so much easier than living through it? lately my past seems so compelling, my present seems pointless, and...

sometimes the past *has* been more fun than the present. And easier to live? Absolutely. I'm getting my ass kicked by work on a daily basis right now. I can definitely think of extraordinary moments, nights, weeks, etc. in the past that I haven't been able to equal since. But i've already *had* those experiences; if i were to go back there, it'd be different at best. More likely boring. The toss-up of the future is the cool part.
joannavaught:
dear elly, this is your cancer talking to you. VERY OFTEN the past seems better than the present, even accounting for the bad. remembered accurately, the past sometimes seems better. i had a whole morning of being haunted by my past and i can't shake it and it's making me blue. love, cancer.

smells

i just had a really strange sensation that everything smelled like cocaine. does that ever happen to you? sort of like you did a drug once, and now you occasionally can smell that drug? i get that with acid and DMT too. it's weird.

smell is a really strong sense. sometimes people don't realize it. i work in a soap store part time. people...

heya grrlie,

hope the bath mopped up quick enough.
bean:
There's a certain vanilla-smelling perfume that always reminds me of the first girl I ever really loved.

The smell of chlorine always reminds me of summers when I was a child and my brother and I would go swimming at the local high school swimming pool, and then we'd come home and lay on the floor to let the water drain out of our sinuses and watch Robotech.

That smell that fabrics get when they get old and musty always reminds me of camping when I was little.

Other scents are less precise. I might be walking around the neighborhood and a combination of some flower, the weather, and the quality of the sunlight might combine to unlock some memory, just a fleeting image, or a feeling.

...and I think that after tonight, the smell of soy cream cheese will always make me think of my little pony....good luck with the mop-up operation.
