Worked Heavy MTL with Oro and 4 non-SGs. Saw the lovely Lee and also Dafina, who I hadn't seen in ages. They were by far the most beautiful girls in in attendance at the show smile Both have sets in member review, by the way-- give them some love!!!!

Saturday was the day I was super excited about-- I was super stoked...

Was at harborfest way up here in Oswego this past weekend and I didn't follow your advice on the sunscreen. The only thing that got sunburned was the top of my head (I've tanned already, but I'm usually wearing a hat.) So now I've been three days with this killer headache because of it. And I'm blaming you. If you wrote this blog a couple days earlier, I would have remembered and I'd be fine. wink

i saw in this moment and norma jean on monday. i went strictly for ITM. they owned. maria's voice is amazing. i was hoping to meet her but she didn't hang around after. i did meet their guitarist, blake, who was a cool guy. he was asking me questions about bands i've seen and where i have to go for shows. it's cool to know that some of these guys are just that...guys. my friend said the singer of norma jean was a total douche.

megadeth, testament and slayer in a few weeks. yay!

Quick update: SG made the news again! The problem SG has been having with the San Diego Comic Con is mentioned in this article about the broader topic @ hand...

"Comic Con Wrestles with 'Booth Babe' Controversy" on Yahoo news.

Any thoughts?

Whenever you have a franchise that explodes quickly in popularity, it can be a real struggle to prevent it from morphing into something altogether different from its original purpose. MySpace would be a good example - it blew up into a massive thing very quickly, there was an ownership change and for whatever reasons, tight control wasn't maintained and the spammers took over and now it's basically just an empty shell with millions of inactive accounts.

So, I would say the comic convention folks would be smart to take steps to prevent their event from becoming convention of professional models. Now SG is different from these companies who hire models for the event, in that the SG models ARE the company's product. Based solely on the issue of preventing the convention from being overrun by hired models, I'd say that comic conventions don't have a strong case for banning SG. However, it's also the case that SG deals in adult entertainment that's inappropriate for children, and children will be attending the convention. That does alter the equation.

Looking at the overall picture, it's understandable why a comic convention might choose to not allow SG to participate. It probably would have made more sense for them to avoid pissing off SG and its fans by allowing a low-key SG presence, but as this comic convention thing mushrooms I suspect they're feeling intense strain in their efforts to prevent it from experiencing a MySpace-type implosion...

I would love to be a music supervisor for film or TV. I am so familiar with so many different kinds of music, both mainstream and totally obscure... I love to create my own soundtracks to things... I've written short scripts for the sole purpose of picking songs to back it... I've also written up ideas for screenplays etc with lists of songs as part...

Check out this article-- pretty intriguing. Give it a read and I'd like to know what you think-- why do *you* get tattooed/pierced and do you have any theories about why others do, or what it means evolutionarily?

stcyr:
I've heard some lame evolutionary theories before, but this may be the worst. Absolute rubbish in my opinion. I like tattoos. Always have. Therefore, I get tattoos. I prefer symmetry to randomness, so mine tend to be "balanced," [but I also like single sleeves, etc.] However, I seriously doubt this has anything to do with my ancestors creeping around in the primordial ooze.
78walk:
Interesting study but there's no science in that third paragraph, just some unsubstantiated speculation. The general public often fails to grasp that it's much easier to collect data than it is to reach firm, scientifically valid conclusions based on that data, but actual scientists ought to know better.

What's clear to me is that having tattoos and piercings has become far more common and socially acceptable in recent years than it ever was throughout the previous years of my lifetime. The ready availability of colored inks is one factor, especially for girls. There definitely is an aspect of social approval involved, especially for younger people. More than that, I would have to say that in 2010, any girl in her late teens or early twenties who has zero tattoos or piercings (setting religion-based abstinence aside) is likely to be seen as a social outcast.

But when you try to figure out what it all means, things get murky very fast. It's possible there could be some important long-term social significance, but it's also possible it could simply be a fad. I doubt that there's any definitive scientific answer to the question right now. Time will tell... smile
