What a weekend!
Worked Heavy MTL with Oro and 4 non-SGs. Saw the lovely Lee and also Dafina, who I hadn't seen in ages. They were by far the most beautiful girls in in attendance at the show Both have sets in member review, by the way-- give them some love!!!!
Saturday was the day I was super excited about-- I was super stoked to see Alice Cooper,SLayer, Rob Halford, Testament,Mastodon, and the list went on!!!!
ALICE COOPER stole the fucking show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALl the classic shit like the guillotine. I don't care what you think about his religion/politics, he was just fucking INCREDIBLE to see live under an almost full moon!!!
Sunday, there were not a lot of bands I was too interested in- more of the modern stuff, but I've been finding that it is really the sound that comes from the style of production that I don't love-- a lot of these modern, super heavy bands are actually pretty wicked live. Sometimes, though, it is just the vocal style that I don't love but the riffs are amazing-- whatever, I'm an old lady
AIRBOURNE were great- I don't think the crowd really knew how awesome that band is
and ROB ZOMBIE was fucking KILLER again. Also enjoyed Despised Icon. Chimaira were super cool to us, and hooked me up with a signed poster for my little bro (I mentioned it to them before they did their autograph signing and when they were DONE I thought fuck,I'll have to chase them down-- but they'd done it and brought it to me! Nice dudes for sure- if they're your thing, go see 'em live or a buy a CD or show some other sorta support!)
So then we got ready for the after party lunacy at Foufounes Electriques... at that point we are beyond tired and delirious and probably ready to kill each other, but WE DID IT wooooo! First we got to take an oddly exciting ride in the Jager golf cart up to "Artist land..." ie .... tour bus zone.... Tried to steal bands to come party, but all those Americans had to go home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bassist from 5 Finger Death Punch came to chill with us (I guess we half kidnapped him) by the Jager bus, and him and the rest of the dudes we met were also wicked cool-- another band that aren't pricks
Here is my advice for a rockin' Heavy Metal Weekend that won't make you or your fellow concert-goers feel like you're in HELL
- wear sunscreen (btw I did, but after 93759753 hours outside, and it being really hot, it eventually wears off!)
- drink lots of water! seriously, for every beer or 2 your have, drink a (refilled) bottle of water. You'll be happy about it later...
- don't do drugs in plain sight and then pass the fuck out in front of everyone with your eyes rolled back in your head, while you're pulling up the grass and your legs are twitching. First of all, you're physically in bad shit, second of all, you're going to the hospital and you can't come back to the show. You're lucky to be half-ok after.
- right, drugs are fucking lame and you *don't* need them to have a good time. seriously. whatever, smoke a joint, but lay off the hard shit, kids... twitching, dilated pupils, aggression, confusion, delirium, slow responses, and non stop chatter are all really unattractive so... again... I have been hard drug free for 3 years and my life has improved dramatically... Just a thought...
- remember you're at a show with thousands of people,so you're not the most important person there, and you simply can not be the center of all attention all the time. just relax and enjoy yourself!
- eat! no, seriously.
- You're at a metal show. You can not be pissed that people head bang and you have to deal with their hair. Move to the outskirts of the audience if you can't tolerate it...
- Just because you're in a majorly male group (say... 80-90%,no doubt) does not mean you should call girls sluts, skanks, etc or say disrespectful shit... Guess who WON'T be getting laid tonight?
- support the bands that come, but REALLY support the local bands-- a lot of the lesser known bands are really amazing and aren't getting shit other than access to the deli-platter. Also, the less well-known bands who are on tour could use your support too-- they haven't necessarily made the big time just cuz they're playing a show far from home!!!!!!!!!
ANyway, that is it-- the rules for not creating a sucky experience... Compiled from years of concerts and festivals...
Seen any wicked bands lately? Checked out a rad fest? Do tell!
