I think it's important to remind people that to forgive does not mean to absolve. Trust has to be earned over time. Even if a person is forgiven there are still consequences to their actions. Apologies without behavior change are nothing more than emotional manipulation. A real apology will come with the knowledge that trust has to be earned again, and work will have to be done to earn it. Forgiveness is something that we do for ourselves, so that we do not become bitter, it is not something we do for the person who wronged us.
