I just finished the book and went to see it with a couple of friends. Read the book. They had to leave out so much in the movie that reading it you'll see that things tie together nicely.

I know how you feel on this one. A girl I dated a few years ago I bought her for one x-mas a necklace she wanted. The following year I bought her a really nice (and expensive) set of books, the Chronicles of Narnia, but she looked at it and said to me,"Great, more books to put in my already cluttered room." That broke my heart. It sucked to have a gift that you took time and thought into getting just stomped on.
I hate to say it but your best bet may be to ask him right out what he wants. Unless of course he has an amazon wishlist and just go from there? Hope you find him something good, he's a lucky boy if you're going through this much trouble for him.

its not that it gets stomped on its just that i dont get suggestions and then i try to find something that he would hopefully like and it just isnt what he wanted. i got him a journal for his b-day one year and he liked it but it was too nice for him to scribble his stuff in since he felt most of it wasnt permanent. its just never as meaningful as i want it to be. i have ideas but i dont know if hes gonna like them and i dont want him to open my gifts and his face fall but i also dont want to ask every idea because then nothing is a surprise.::sigh::
