Chin up! Going along with the free legal advice counsel, also look into if there is a "Contributory negligence" law in Ca. Basically it's a law in common law states that says, if your at fault, even 1%, you lose all right to sue. Someone hit me in a hit and run, and my case was thrown out because they claimed that I cut them off first. This may not help with your personal bills, but it could save you if they come seeking money from you later, and your insurance is being jerks. Take care. Keep on the good path, this is just another hurdle to test your resolve.
