So I know that airbrush makeup has popped up all over this group in the past but its seemingly impossible to track down all the tidbits buried amongst the rest. I've been toying around with a bunch of ideas and just started researching but I was wondering if anyone has …

I don't know much at all, but when I had a pro do my make-up for a Gore themed burlesque act, she airbrushed everywhere. It worked beautifully. Stayed on all night, even after dancing and lying all over the stage (it was a Dr Sketchy's performance), and looked much better than anything I've seen done with body paint. One coat just made me look a bit paler, two made my skin look totally dead, and she applied a thin coat of blue/green to my finger tips, feet and contouring. Hope that helps.

Airbrush kits

I have decided to invest in an airbrush kit. The problem is I haven't been able to find a decent affordable set up to get me started. Any ideas?

How affordable would you like your starter set to be? Airbrushing can be fairly expensive and unfortunately (as I learned), it's not something you can just play around with without spending quite a bit of money.

First, you'll need a gun (I'm not sure if you already have one or not). You have to decide if you'd like a single or dual action gun. Singles are significantly less expensive, but they're not as practical. I started with an Iwata High Performance Plus gun, which set me back about $160. From what I have learned, Iwatas are considered the sports car of airbrush guns, but plenty of other companies make good ones. Try Paasche too.

Secondly, of course, you'll need a compressor to power your gun, and those aren't terribly cheap either. I have a Temptu plug-in compressor, but they also make portable ones that run off batteries.

Finally, you'll need the make-up. Generally speaking, airbrush make-up comes in three types: water-based, alcohol-based, and silicone-based. What are you looking to achieve with this airbrush? For general make-up, you'll typically either go with water or silicone-based paints, but if you're creating more intense looks (like body painting for film, etc), you'll want alcohol-based paints. Many companies make starter kits, but again, expect to pay quite a bit of money. When I started, I spent a couple hundred dollars on just starter paint kits. I picked up some of these and the bottles are quite small, but they give you a good starting point so you can decide what colors you like and what you will need for your kit.

One recommendation I would make would be to practice with cheap paints. I got a huge pad of inexpensive paper from an art supply store, tacked it to the wall, and practiced. I don't know what kind of art or painting background you have, but I can say that I found it kind of difficult at first. And it makes much more sense to practice on paper with cheap crap before you touch someone's face with your nicer paints.

Good luck finding something that works for you! It is quite overwhelming and expensive, but I've found that people are willing to pay extra for this service. Also, I would recommend just contacting different companies and asking them if they can send you any catalogs or other information. Try Laurel Cosmetics, Temptu , Kett, O2 Cosmetics, and AirPro.

And try this for more information.

I think Tyra Banks is a tiiiiny bit dellusional.

TYRA BANKS will become the first beauty to ask editors not to digitally enhance her appearance when she appears on magazine covers. The 32-year-old is fed up with the message being sent out to young girls when they see flawless women …

nah, it makes most of us photoshoppers all twitchy.

and i love tyra. i'm a full on antm addict and it just wouldn't be the same without her steely resolve to stay "hip" and "fresh" and so painfully painfully young.

Airbrushing should be a crime. It's a misrepresentation of the individual in the photograph. Use it to fix a lighting error, use it to enhance color, or clip out the douche that accidentally walked into the background.

Don%u2019t rearrange a person%u2019s face. Ridiculous!

You're aware that airbrushing is used on SG photosets, right?

SG sets are not "airbrushed." there was a whole debate over that term on the boards recently. airbrushing refers to a certain tool in photoshop and a very specific look.

Umm, no it doesn't. "airbrushing" as a term and a process predates Photoshop by about 30 years. There is considerable alteration and "cleaning up" of images on SG, the generic term for that process (digital or otherwise) is "airbrushing"

EDIT: I'm not saying that it's positive or negative.

Photo editors on here are using way too much airbrush nowadays. This site used to pride itself on being outside the mainstream of porn. Alternative. Now it's starting to look like everything else. The models are still great. My problem is with the over use of airbrushing. It makes everything look totally fake. Cameras are such high quality, and then you see one whole body...

Well, my car is half fixed. It turns out that my car didn't need a tune up, just a bunch of little things. First torque converter clutch was bad and preventing the overdrive from disengaging when the car was stopped and killing the engine. My Fuel filter was clogged and the stabilizer bar control link was completely broken and if it wasn't fixed soon it...

I've been sad to see some of my favorite natural beauties on SG starting to airbrush their photos more and more. I can imagine there is a huge amount of pressure to seem perfect as being naked involves an incredible amount of vulnerability. I think the airbrushing removes a huge amount of the appeal and sexyness of the women. The imperfections and unique parts of...
